CSUDH Entry MEPN Program - Fall 2010 Applicants

Published

i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

Oh no, Carolyn, that sucks! I can't believe he left you hanging like that! Well, I hope you receive good news in the mail soon...

Carolyn, when did you have your interview? The wait is killing me too. I just want to know, doesn't the program start in August? Did anyone who got accepted recieve an email or is it all being done by letters only?

I think everything is done through letter because they can't disclose information to you until the letters are sent out. The process is that Nursing department send decisions over to the Admission office. Admission can send out rejection letter upon being rejected from the nursing department OR if you are accepted to the program, your graduate program advisor has to review your eligibility for the program and the university. Once that is done (the process is about 1 week), they can post the information on http://www.my.csudh.edu/ and also send out letters. So it is best (i think) to check the site everyday because you will find out sooner.

They are very short-staffed as well, in the nursing department and in the admission office; therefore, it might even be longer. Also, the decisions seem to be made in cohort or some sort of grouping that they have, because they only send out part of their decisions at a time. So, in Carolyn's case, she will probably know the decision in a week of time.

Though, I still want to know if anyone have recieved a rejection letter (those that got interviewed) or are they waiting till the end to mail out all rejection letters at once.

The wait is killing me, as well. I don't know much about it, that is what I got from visiting their admission office.

Good luck to me and others who are still waiting and congrats to those who has made it.

Just so you are not checking your MyCSUDH account everyday with disappointment, the status will probably never change. Those of us who were admitted a few months ago still show "Your application is complete and will be reviewed for admission." So, you will most likely get a letter before anything changes on your online account...

I am sorry it is taking so long for you guys to hear back. The wait must be excruciating!

Hm, I confirmed it twice with different people in the admission department that the status would update instantaneously the moment that the decision is inputed by the advisor.

I thought for sure that you guy's status has been updated already, that's why. Thanks for the head up, so I don't have to log in any chance I have to check lol.

Hi D848,

I interviewed the third week of April and at the time JE told me that I would hear something back the first week of May but it seems like they are still sending out letters but they could just be rejection or wait list letters. I think that they do it by paper letters only.

Hi Kilar,

That was the same impression I got after speaking with Graduate Admissions and JE the other day. JE told me that Graduate Admissions is back logged so it may take some time before they can process the letters for the SON.

Nope, the status hasn't changed and I received my acceptance letter in February. Our financial aid packages have been awarded to where we can accept the amounts we wish to take for the school year, dates to register for classes have been assigned, and still, NO change on the admissions status - smh. So please don't check it everyday or it will stress you out. The letter will be a small, regular sized envelop from the admissions office so if you receive one, don't freak out, as you will not get a big folder size package.

Yes, classes, I believe start August 25th. And there is a pre-orientation day (which should be in June I'm guessing as I believe it's when we go over all of the things that are required for fall such as vaccinations, background checks, etc.), and then I expect orientation days will more than likely be in July or the beginning of August in which this is when JE will register us for classes.

Hang in there guys and keep thinking positive thoughts, good news has to be on the way!!

OMG!

After the forever-wait, I got the letter today! Did your guys' say this as well? It says "Congratulations! The SON has completed its review of the materials you submitted...I am very pleased to tell you that I will recommend you to the office of admissions and records that you be admitted conditionally, pending successful completion of all pre-reqs..." sorry I'm just stunned right now..it's surreal haha

@Mya2bRN: I have to take patho...do you know which class we have to take? Is it BSN 346-30513 or 30154? I'm looking at the class search right now, and luckily they're still open...gtg hurry and register!

I can't even express in words how relieved I am. Looking forward to seeing you guys! Hopefully there will be more good news a'comin!

Woo!! Congrat to you and me =)

Hi Killar!

Did you take patho yet?

Congratulations! Yes, that sounds like the letter we received from the SON. You will be getting another letter from the Office of Admissions.

Did you letter give you an Orientation date, or did it still stay TBA?

Yea it just says TBA for the orientation date... Did you guys receive an email about the courses to register for, schedule, etc?
