i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

Hi D848!
Wow thanks for the info. Hmmm I wonder why JE wrote me back about having already sent out the inital decisions when it seems like they are still in the process of deciding? Interesting...Anywho, I guess there's still hope so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for telling us D848 =)
Hi Everyone!
I agree with D848, hang in there. It seems like CSUDH has a very long process due to the number of workshops and scheduling interviews based on each workshop. My workshop was in Oct. My portfolio was due in Nov. I interviewed in Jan. Received my acceptance letter in Feb. So, yes, it's a process and if you were a part of the last workshop, it would make sense that they are still making decisions from that group! And I agree, if you received an interview then I'm sure you're a pretty strong candidate that they are considering - so don't count yourself out just yet!
D848 - I'm taking pathophysiology this summer (it's my last class) at CSUDH, it starts May 29th, and it was a whopping $750 dollars! Just picked up my book on Wednesday, which was $139! I soooo wish I could've taken it at a JC, say SBCC, but JE wouldn't allow it. I already had research from undergrad, but I'm assuming that it would be $250/unit just like patho when taken through University Extension.
Again, good luck everyone and please keep us updated! But whatever happens, don't let it deter or stop you from pursuing nursing!
Also, if you have to take patho you need to sign up ASAP! JE made a point to stress that there is only one section of patho that is for MEPN candidates and it fills up fast, not only with those who have been accepted for the fall cohort and still need it, but for those who plan to apply for next year, as their new rule is you have to take patho at CSUDH if you plan to apply. You will have to get an application for University Extension, then take to JE to sign so you can be placed in the MEPN section. And like I said, it starts May 29th so you may want to get on it.
Hello D848,
Thanks so much for the information and the encouragement! The program at CUI is a great alternative. The campus is gorgeous and I got to meet some of the faculty during the interview process and they seem very approachable and knowledgeable in their respective fields.
BTW...the interview at CUI is a marathon. It was about 4 hours long. Seems intimidating but it was broken down into four sessions and actually it was great because you felt that you really got to showcase your strengths and paint a good picture of what kind of person you are and why you would make an amazing nurse.
I am blessed and have a lot to be thankful for!
I called graduate admissions to check on the status of my application since they would be the ones to send out the initial letter of admissions and they told me that I needed to contact JE to see if there was a decision made on my individual application.
I called JE and he said that there has been a decision made on my application but he couldn’t tell me over the phone what that decisions was. Hopefully they will send their decision over to graduate admissions soon. The wait is killing me.

hi everyone, i'm new to this thread. but i can tell you that i don't think that all the letters of acceptance could have gone out already because i didn't have my interview until may 5th. i was in the last cohort of applications and they told me that there would be no answer until the end of may. i highly doubt that they would bother to interview people if they had already filled up their program. also, a friend of mine goes to grad school with je's assistant, and i was told through the grape vine that they only interview 50ppl. so, the people who were invited to interview were already narrowed down quite a bit. so, hang in there, you don't know for sure until you get your letters. to carolyn562 i heard great things about concordia and i plan on applying there for spring 2011, so congratulations. as far as i'm concerned it's so competitive to get in to any program. it's a great accomplishment and you should be proud ;-)
does anyone know how much the pathophisiology class and the research class at csudh cost?
