CSUDH Entry MEPN Program - Fall 2010 Applicants

Published

i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

Bummer about already taking the class -it will definitely help you with the CSUDH patho, though. I waited to register for it until I knew that I was accepted - so I didn't spend the money if I didn't have to. You may want to talk to JE about it, though. It couldn't hurt.

I was only looking at local schools (South Bay area of L.A.) - I have three kids, so I am not in a position to move or go too far, but I felt confident with my grades and background and recommendations and CSUDH was my first choice bc it was a MEPN program, which trumped all AA programs.

Nursing schools apps are stressful, though, so good luck!

Yea I think I will hold off and take it if I get in, praying that I do. My info session is coming up and I have never been to an information session for any nursing school yet. I was wondering if it they are formal or if everyone there is dressed pretty casual? Should I bring anything specific with me? I wouldn't want to give off the wrong impression before I even apply, ha.

Hi Genzy,

I am also a Gaucho (though many years ago)!

I would talk to them at the workshop about the SBCC patho class. I think they would *prefer* you take it at CSUDH, because I (and others) have received mixed messages about SBCC class. They may have waffled on it last year, and officially said no this year...not sure, though.

The workshop is WAY casual. I can't remember if we even introduced ourselves, so unless you make a complete scene, they probably won't remember who you are. :)

Good luck with the app process!

Hey everyone,

Congratulations on your acceptances to CSUDH!

I'm planning to apply for fall 2011 entry. I will be attending an information session in October but I'm trying to get a head start planning out my letters of recommendation for all the schools I'm applying to. Could someone please tell me if CSUDH requires LOR's to be on institutional letter head or do they have a specific form they want filled out? Also, do they require the letters to be sent directly to the school, or do they ask that the recommender return the letter to you in a sealed envelope?

Thank you all so much for your help!

Hi Psych_to_Nurse,

They have a specific form the recommenders must fill out -- they will give it to you at the workshop. You turn in a portfolio and the letters must be in there, so your recommenders need to give the letters to you sealed.

I would contact your recommenders soon and warn them you will be giving them a form, because you only have 30 days from the date of the Orientation to turn in a completed portfolio.

Good luck!

JKR SB,

Thanks for filling me in. I will take your advice and forewarn my recommenders!

Hello Guys,

I just attended the Oct 2010 workshop and i am supposed to submit my portfolio by 30 days....anxiety is killin me.

Wish me luck and anyone in the same boat (awaiting fall 2011) can keep in touch and the cougars (already in the program ) can be our advisors.

I did submit my portfolio to the Dept of nursing and they told me the qualified student will interview in Feb 2011...i wish i was a time-traveller.Anyone who submitted his/her portfolio..lets stay intouch.-_-

Hi I'm new to the forum and I'm desperately trying to complete all my prereqs in time to apply to CSUDH's program. For Microbio, I'm trying to take this at UCLA extension. Has anyone taken it at UCLA Extension and have CSUDH accept the class?? I wanted to take XL 6 but was worried CSUDH doesn't accept classes without the lab component. Please let me know if anyone has experiences with this. Thanks!!

Hey everyone! I submitted my portfolio in November for the fall 2011 cohort and still have not heard of anything back yet. I think they said they will call for interviews in feb.? Anyway, for all of you who started the program this august, HOW DO YOU LIKE IT!? Is it difficult? I know they said at the workshop that it is impossible to work during the program, are you finding this to hold true?

Hello Genzey, did you take Patho class already?.

i rumor is going round that the current applicats are about 164 students and they will just pick 40... this sucks...i am now trying to find another school.Am just hoping for the best...i know am not that lucky. Its gonna be very competitive.
