CSU San Marcos ABSN Fall 2017

Published

Hey guys!

I just wanted to start a thread for the Fall 2017 ABSN at CSUSM at the Temecula campus so we could all go through this process together and get to know each other! I know it's still early since the deadline isn't until March but I have submitted my application recently and I'm impatient.

So if anyone else has applied or is planning on applying, let's get a conversation going!

Good luck everyone!

Hi Canlas,

I am in the same situation as I applied to two community colleges near me and CSU San Marcos. Coming from LA County I will have to move to Temecula. I've talked to many nurses who say to go straight for the BSN because everyone will need it once it becomes mandatory in the future. The nurses who have ADNs have a hard time to get back into "student mode" after working for so long. I figure that since I am still focused on school to go for the BSN straight away, but like you said the cost is a killer. On the other hand, you could get an employer to help pay for your RN-BSN program. Would be a tough choice if I get into the ADN and ABSN programs.

Same here. I live in LA county and moving to Temecula for 2 years would probably cost me another $20k in addition to the cost of CSUSM's absn program so roughly ~75k for a 2 year program. The other option is to attend an ADN program for

I also live in LA county and have been fortunate enough to land a CNA job at my local hospital recently. It's definitely been a huge game changer. I originally was set on attending CSUSM prior to it, but I'm now heavily considering taking the ADN route, then RN-BSN/MSN after. This way I can work, stay local and pay off tuition along the way. The biggest factor, like you've mentioned is networking, most especially with how saturated the current market is. I have one coworker who was recently offered an RN position before she even graduated, and she's only worked as a CNA for 6mos -- again, the key element being that she got her foot in, grabbed the opportunity by the tail and ran with it.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences!

So it turns out the reason that I haven't been evaluated yet, and they considered my application complete up until today, is because they were missing a transcript from one class I randomly took five years ago. I'm rather annoyed since they didn't inform me until today and they will not receive it until next week. Long story short, I may not be considered for Fall... and I've been emailing them regularly for the last couple of weeks.

Anyone get accepted yet?

Not sure... but acceptances may be pushed back towards middle of May since they are still accepting applications for the Fall cohort, at least that's what my counselor said.

They had a priority deadline so I hope people who applied by then get an answer sooner than May. I was just accepted to an ADN program, but I would have to make a decision to accept or decline my spot by April 28th. I would rather go to CSUSM than the ADN program, so I hope they send updates soon.

What made you change your mind about attending an ADN program instead? Did you have a change of heart after attending Rio's orientation?

Hey all. I got into CSULB, so if I were to hear back from San Marcos that I got in, there is another open spot for an alternate. Best of luck to you all!!

You could always e-mail Extended Learning for a more approximate date, hopefully it's soon so you can make a decision.

Specializes in RN, BSN.

Priority deadline indicates march 17th but applications still stay "Open Now".

Anyone know if it's ok to still send in apps for fall 2017? And when do you think they'll close it?

My understanding is that csusm has rolling admissions, so you can submit your application for Fall 2017 and it might be considered if there is still room left to be filled. Otherwise, your application will be rolled over and considered for Spring 2018.

When I asked last week, they said they were still accepting applications for the Fall cohort. Plus mine wasn't considered "completed" until last week, so I think you should be good.
