CSU San Marcos ABSN Fall 2017

Published

Hey guys!

I just wanted to start a thread for the Fall 2017 ABSN at CSUSM at the Temecula campus so we could all go through this process together and get to know each other! I know it's still early since the deadline isn't until March but I have submitted my application recently and I'm impatient.

So if anyone else has applied or is planning on applying, let's get a conversation going!

Good luck everyone!

They told me that I should be receiving an evaluation no later than the end of the first full week of April, and if I don't then I should get in contact. So I'm crossing my fingers that I get it sooner rather than later!

That's what they told me too when I asked about my evaluation. It took another month after my initial query. I believe there are two counselors. They split the evaluations based on last names. The counselor handling my evaluation skipped my evaluation and I suspect you have the same counselor.

Received my evaluation today! 37 points hope that's competitive enough.

Anyone know when we should expect acceptances??

Based on last year's Fall class, I would say late April to mid May? But not entirely sure.

On another note... still waiting on an evaluation.

Hello everyone,

I originally applied for the summer term but asked to be deferred for the fall term due to work. Does anyone know if it's possible to work while in the program (perhaps the first few terms?) and how the scheduling works for classes and clinicals? Thanks in advance for the input!

What does your student portal look like? Does it still say your application is for the Summer?

Yes. I made the request to defer recently. I suppose it takes awhile for it to be updated.

Hey canlas! My friend talked to one person that is in the program and she said working is definitely doable as long as you are focused. She said that the didactic classes are usually only once a week. And once clinicals start that those could be 2-3 days a week

I asked one of my friends currently in the ABSN program that question recently, and she said definitely during the first two semesters but after that, it is a little bit harder. I'll ask her about scheduling too sometime soon.

Thank you, this definitely provides me with a better picture of how scheduling works if given the opportunity to proceed with the program.

I'm also a bit torn because I've recently been offered admission at GWC to pursue my ADN and I'm hoping to apply for an RN-BSN program at a CSU after. On the upside, it's cost effective (6k-10k for ADN, 13k-15k for RN-BSN) and they may potentially hold clinicals at the hospital that I currently work in. The only down side is that it will take one year longer. I'd love to continue w/ San Marcos if given the chance, but the cost and distance kills me. Is anyone in the same situation?

Hi Canlas,

I am in the same situation as I applied to two community colleges near me and CSU San Marcos. Coming from LA County I will have to move to Temecula. I've talked to many nurses who say to go straight for the BSN because everyone will need it once it becomes mandatory in the future. The nurses who have ADNs have a hard time to get back into "student mode" after working for so long. I figure that since I am still focused on school to go for the BSN straight away, but like you said the cost is a killer. On the other hand, you could get an employer to help pay for your RN-BSN program. Would be a tough choice if I get into the ADN and ABSN programs.
