CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2011)

Published

How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?

I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.

It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.

So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.

Thanks and godspeed everyone!

Just to clarify,

I listed English 1C (Critical Thinking) on my SON application under Critical thinking prerequisites. They must have accepted it or overlooked it. As I was admitted for Fall.

Did any one else list English as a general education critical thinking course?

Can anyone clarify? I'm a bit confused as to whether English critical thinking satisfied both critical thinking requirments for admission to the university and for admission to SON.

If not. I guess I'll find out on Monday.

Congrats on acceptance! Did you not take the SON's critical thinking course like philosophy or something or did you use your English "critical thinking" to satisfy both university AND SON? You must have. See I did the "critical thinking" English (the one after you take freshman English) and got a C and I refuse to take that again, so I am doing the philosophy of logic class this summer to satisfy the req.

Thanks BeachBedHead.

Yes, I did use English(criticalthnkg) for both SON and University admission.

I hate to assume, but I guess SON accepted it. I think I should call to confirm on Monday though.

Well..I guess they overlooked it. Their mistake, don't tell them though. When I applied and got accepted to CSULA in 2009, the university took my English critical thinking as satisfying the critical thinking requirement. So I guess I am good. I am still going to take philosophy to fill the SON's requirement to boost up my pre req GPA.

Lysander01,

I go to El Camino College too and I think English 1C fulfills the critical thinking requirement...it does at all the other BSN programs. What were your stats(GPA,healthcare/volunteer experience, etc.)? I'm really on edge about applying to schools this fall because its VERY competitive out there. I want to be a nurse very bad, as I'm sure all of you want to be as well otherwise we wouldn't all be stressing out lol.

Here are my grades up until now:

English Comp--B

Statistics--A

Speech---Most likely a B...an A might be possible

Critical Thinking(English 1C)--Most likely a B

Anatomy--As of now a strong A

Chemistry--As of now an A and planning on keeping it lol

Still have Physiology to take in Summer, Micro to take in Fall, Psychology to take in Fall, and I'll be taking Nutrition in Spring(I'm not sure if nutrition is an actual prereq or whether you just need to complete it?)

*I also have around 100 hours at the hospital where I volunteer

Woohoo! I received call from SON today also!

Yay! Congrates to all who got accepted.:)

@Lysander01 and girlygirl20

Congrats for getting admitted. I have a question for the both of you: are either of you transfer students? If so, did you make the $100 deposit fee to the admission office at CSULA before or after the May 2nd deadline?

The problem I'm having with right now is that I was informed about my admission to CSULA's SON on May 10. The man that contacted me said it is alright if I make my deposit after the May 2nd deadline because the admission office is aware of of the SON admitting students after the deposit deadline. I had previously made contacted with the Nursing Department on MAY 2nd, asking about my application status and was informed on that day, "it is still under review. If you are admitted you can make the deposit after May 2nd"

So, May 10th I received my acceptance call. SAME DAY (May 10th) I went to CSULA IN PERSON to make my deposit. The girl at the cashier's office was not going to accept my money because I missed the deadline. I told her I was admitted to the SON and it was all right to accept my money. She spoke to someone in the back and then accepted my money. 3 days later, I received an email saying that they are going to refund my money back because I missed the deadline. I called the admission's office and they said, "we hold (May 2nd) deadline to all students of all majors. Sorry there's nothing you can do about it." I called the Nursing Department and was told to wait a week...just to "SEE" if they can do anything about it...

So are either of you or anyone else having to deal with a similar problem? Please let me know of any insight, I greatly appreciate the help.

but I only got 5 points out of 10 because they only grade reading and english in which I was placed in the 78/68 percentile respectively

total score 23 points

nutrition is a coreq during your nursing classes, but you can finish it right now if you like

best of luck Lysander01!

don't be intimidated by my grades! if it is not your grades that get you in, it is a great TEAS score.

the way people are selected, if you have the top GPA or TEAS, you'll get in. You do not have to necessarily need both. You can have a low GPA and a high TEAS score and get in, or have a Low TEAS score (above the 40th percentile) with a high GPA and still get in!

Ly amy,

It sounds like a miscommunication between both departments. Hopefully it will be resolved next week.

To answer your question: I am a transfer student, however I decided to take my chances and pay the fee before the deadline. (I was crossing my fingers there would be a spring class)

Al1992

I have to agree with Mr. Suave. If you have great GPA or Great TEAS score you have a fairly good chance to get in. But than again every year is a little different.

Im not sure of my exact rank, but here are my stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.7

Cummulative GPA: 3.59

TEAS score: 88%

I see. Thanks for info. I really do hope for the best and hope this issue will be resolved soon. It would be really unfair since I have proof of the acceptance letter and letter of intent mailed to me with the May 10th letter head and post-marked date.

Hey there! I too am applying this Oct!

I'm so excited.

I'll start a new thread for those of us applying this fall.

Your grades are pretty good now its up to getting an awesome TEAS score. Make sure you get your transcripts GE certified and to apply before the deadline. Oh and don't forget to apply to the university before the SON.

Good luck!

I would definitely copy and submit to the office of admissions everything that the SON have you especially your acceptance

I hope things get fixed

BeachBedHead,

i'm confused on when to submit the school of nursing app and the university app...it says the School of Nursing application period is Sep 1st-Dec 1st which means it opens up before the university application. Also, if I complete Microbiology and Public speaking this fall does that increase me chances of getting accepted?
