How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?
I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.
It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.
So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.
Thanks and godspeed everyone!
Hi everyone :) so I'm new to this site. I read majority of the posts and congrats to those who got accepted to CSULA for Fall 2011!Yesterday, May 10 around 10:30 AM, I received a call from CSULA's SON on my acceptance to CSULA
![]()
These are my stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.83 10 pt
Overall GPA: 3.68 4 pt
TEAS Reading: 1 pt or 2 pt
TEAS English: 2 pt or 5 pt
Medical Assist. Exp.: 3 pt
Total: 20/31 or 24/31
Reason why I put 2 different scores up for my TEAS is because the one I remember submitting would only have given me 1 and 2 points for reading and english. I retook the test two other times and the second column of points would be given to me if the school had taken the highest national scores of the 3 times I took the TEAS. (I took version 4 twice and version 5 once).
I noticed a lot of people were confused about the TEAS version...when I took my TEAS at CSULA, they were offering V. 4 but will accept scores from either versions. CSUSB, CSULB, & CSUCI will also accept either versions. SFSU ONLY accepts V. 5. CSULB will begin only accept V. 5 for Spring '12 and Fall '12 applicants (I think) and I forgot SDSU's.
I am a transfer student from Pasadena City College, for those that know where that is. :) Paid my $100 deposit like...30 minutes after receiving my phone call...lol. Didn't have too much of a problem with the cashier's office even though the deadline past (just be sure to mention you got accepted into the nursing program because they made acceptations to us). But yup...hope I get to meet some of you guys at orientation or class
Sorry this was such a long post...but I hope it can help some of you guys who are sweating bricks as I was.
Wow congrats!
Well I only thought you were allowed to take the TEAS 2 times max! so if your first set of scores stunk, then they must have taken your second set of scores. I don't know how you were able to take it a 3rd time! And also, the scores can't "mix n match" so if your best score is on one test then they take that whole test in to consideration. If you have an awesome score for reading on test 1 and the best score for english on test 2 then they have to take either one OR two test, not both.
Kinda confusing...lol
That sucks they notified so late....the school was ok with a late deposit even though the budget sucks? Hmm thats a good thing then lol.
BTW you can't receive/view/send any private messages until you post more, so I would inquire about you selling it but you wouldn't be able to see it anyway! Post up more and Ill send you a pm
Good luck in the program!

Oh thanks for letting me know! I'll definitely be active on this site. :)
As far as me taking the TEAS 3 times... the 1st time I took it, I wasn't happy with the score. 2nd time...it was almost the same score, slightly worse actually . Took it the 3rd time because SF wanted V. 5. So yup!

Awwww lol
if you turned the first two into CSULA, they took the higher of the two, if you turned in the last two then they probably would have taken version V.
CSULA takes version V right?
Was it that hard?
I am worried. I am taking it at Rio Hondo this August after summer classes are over. If I do good, then I will send those scores in when I apply to CSULA in Oct. If not then I will take it again when CSULA offers it in November. Either way, I hope for the best to make up for my useless overall GPA points.
Version V wasn't hard at all.
Compared to Version VI...only the science part was actually SCIENCE questions versus data interpreting, reading graphs and charts. It asked questions related to biology, physio, chem, and anatomy (but nothing you wouldn't have studied for in the study guide if you have it or through your science textbooks). It was still relatively easy...because I reviewed some of the materials. They also took out the geology section.
Math easiest part as always. I did a lot better in the reading and english section in V. 5. I wouldn't say V. 5 was overall easier...because the mean national and program was overall very low in each sections of the test, with the group of people I took the test with at CSULB.
Congratulations, ly_amy for your acceptance into CSULA's SON! Good to see a fellow Lancer in this year's cohort. I look forward to meeting you along with the rest of the candidates at orientation. Does anyone from CSULA know when are we supposed to take Statistics and can this class be transfered from a Community College? The people at the advisement office are not returning my calls on this question. Is Statistics considered an upper division course?
Thank you for the reply. Because i am an international student, tuition for UCLA is very expensive. I have to consider it.... It is so hard to make a decision which school i should go. I want to stay in LA area but i am worried if i am able to follow all those smart people in UCLA nursing program.
Do you have any email i can reach you!?
I thought intro to statistics counted? That is what I am taking this fall for the math requirement.
Anyway. Good to see some PCC students that got in! I don't go to PCC but I do go to Citrus College which is down the street.
That sucks that you didn't get into CSULB but its probably because that is a really impacted school and they decided to only take, I think 25 transfers for the fall 2011 class and the other 65 were CSULB students. Kinda dumb eh? CSULB students will probably only be allowed for spring 2012. IDK CSULB seems to favor their own students at this time and they were my top choice but now its CSULA because, at least they rank their students evenly so all of us are fair game.
Well have fun at orientation!
Cant wait to join yall next year (hopefully)
@BeachBedHead - if you consider a 15-mile drive from Citrus College to PCC "down the street" then CSULA is in my back yard! LOL... I was told that the kind of statistics class required by CSULA's SON is not the typical statistics course offered by most schools. The website, assist.org, also seems to concur, as there are no equivalent courses with "inferential statistics" being offered at ANY community college in the greater Los Angeles area. That includes, Citrus College (I already checked).
Ideally I would like to get Statistics out of the way before embarking on the real nursing courses (meaning take it this summer if possible). But my mind simply can't stomach forking over $1000 for a pre-requiste course that can easily be taken for a tenth of the cost at a community college. I need answers! If I have to take this class at CSULA, then I have no choice. But if I can transfer this course, then I need to know which school offers it.

Lol I think I meant down the freeway. My bad.
I think I know which one you are talking about. It's some 300 or 400 level course right? I think you have to take it at CSULA. Sucks I know
