How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?
I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.
It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.
So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.
Thanks and godspeed everyone!
Thanks kosmic!
I am just worried about the English portion, I am not good at any of that artsy stuff, but I am a science person. My pre req classes and teachers have definitely prepared me for what is on the sciecne part of it. Since CSULA only looks at reading (which I think I can) and english, I know all I have to do is pass the other portions to get points for it.
Any adivice on the TEAS V (which I am assuming CSULA is taking?) would be greatly appreciated!
I am taking it this August

I have not made a decision yet on where I intend to enroll yet. Until then, I am having difficulty selecting which campus to attend. My decision is merely based on the campus and its environment in terms of student body, extracurricular activities, and city. As for academical rankings, you can't go wrong with either. However, I would expect that UCLA's school of Nursing is much more heavily funded than San Diego's. Also, the opportunity for clinical research would be present.
There's a very different feeling when I step foot on each campus, so please let me explain.
SDSU - The student body is much more diverse than UCLA is. Tuition is less expensive in contrast with LA's. Qualcomm stadium is only about ten minutes away from campus, so you could attend a special event or Chargers game. Several beaches including mission, pacific, imperial, and ocean beach in which you could choose to surf, play volleyball, or hang out. There are mountains roughly 62 miles away for you to camp and mountain climb. Typical clothing worn by students is described as the modern day surfer look, a pair of shorts, sunglasses, and t-shirt. There is a public trolley that you could use to transport throughout the city instead of driving.
UCLA - A large student body consisting of Asians/Caucasians. Nationally, it's one of the best schools across the nation for a public education. Your in the nicest region of Los Angeles in Westwood. Santa Monica is nearby and any kind of food you could think of, LA has it. Chinatown, Korea town, Downtown, and several LA counties are in close proximity of each other. Students here are motivated and determined on what they want to do in life.
I'm leaning more towards SD, but I am not looking forward to all the orientations, white coat ceremony, and two day workshops that we are required to attend. Anyhow, if you would like to talk about this further, instant message me.

No, CSULA is taking version 4 and not 5.
I never heard of them changing it because they co associate with RIO HONDO CC who proctors version 4 daily.
if anyone has official stuff that CSULA is taking version 5, let me know, because that would be new for the program.

So, did you decline CSULA SON's acceptance? Because if you have not, you would be holding off the ranking process for wait-list applicants. So if you choose not to go to CSULA, please give them a call as soon as you can so that other people who are waiting can receive their letters.
-thank you

Really? I thought all schools are taking version 4 and not V?
Hmm I guess I will wait until they post up the next application cycle.
I don't know I am really big on planning and being organized in as much advanced as possible. When do they post up new application cycle info? Probably late summer because application period starts sept 1st.
How do you think this next year budget cut will affect transfers? Ugh I heard a major cut even IF the tax extension gets put on the ballot AND IF it gets passed...that is TWO BIG IF's
If not, then it looks like the cut will be double or triple... Not good for transfers at all.
Do you think they will make it fair for transfers vs CSULA students when it comes to nursing school?
CSULB decided to cut transfers out of spring admission and only take 25 in fall admission (out of 90 spots)..really not fait at all...especially if you look at the statistics of CSULB students averaging GPA is 3.3 and transfers is 3.8....
I don't know, I rather have smarter nurses....
This CA budget is scaring me. I really do not want to apply to an ADN program with no job prospects afterwards...
Sorry for the rant...ugh this just ridculous

Thank you for stating that.
If I was waitlisted, I would be real upset if I knew someone wasn't going to attend and decided not to notify the campus. Which is why I think you should be given maybe 2-3 weeks tops to reply so others who want to attend can!

I feel like we talked about this before? lol
application cycle, budget cuts etc.
It's cool, this site is also to express yourself too. I totally understand. But the majority of questions that you said, most of them have been answered pretty darn well
so all we can do is wait.
What I can tell you is that I took version 4, the cohort before that took version 4, and the one before that did the same.
LOL
I probably have complained about the same crap before.
Its just I was talking to a customer the other day and he worked for the CSU's saying the budgets going to be even worse (in my mind, I think, go figure, the one year I apply to CSU nursing programs)
oh well such as life...
I do tend to repeat myself...sorry lol
I guess I am avoiding til the last minute on when to get ready and go to work and finish the mother's day brunch....ugh...talk about busy.
At least I didn't work the morning shift!

I applied to other nursing schools as back up just incase I didn't get into CSULA, so I had to take both 4 and 5. The reading portion is definitely easier on the version 4 than 5. As for the science, version 5 is considerably harder than the version 4. I felt that the english and math portion of both versions was pretty easy.
