CSU Bakersfield Fall 2015 Nursing

Published

Hi,

I haven't seen a CSU Bakersfield thread anywhere for its Fall 2015 program, so I thought I'd make one for anyone that applied there.

I'm in the process of taking Physiology with lab now (under Prof. Stark). 2nd test coming up this week :arghh:

Anyone hoping to get into CSUB?!

@Erica331 This is me, too! I feel like it's impossible without those 20 points. I'm hoping my grades and TEAS will be good enough, but 20 points is a ton :/

Thanks @Andime89 for the encouragement! I'm finishing Physiology pretty strong and if not this year, then I have one more TEAS attempt to better qualify me for Fall 16!

For those on the waitlist -- those of us that had to take Physiology in the summer (they ran out of spots in the Spring and only offer the class in the Spring and Summer and we share these spots with PEAK), our Final is Monday so the grades should be turned in by the end of next week or sooner. Grading has been done very quickly in this summer class.

@euisme if you don't mind me asking, what is PEAK? I don't attend CSUB so I don't know what that is haha

@rrich7 good luck to us! I'm 7th on the waitlist

@reallynervous Oops! That's Kinesiology majors :D

Also, apply to BC as a backup. If you get into BC but not CSUB, then you could always get your ADN and then do the RN-BSN Bridge at CSUB. You still have options open to you, even if you were denied. Don't give up, keep working at it, and dedicate as much time as possible to it! Good luck! :D

I wanted to add to the BC ADN statement @ThatOneDude822 made -- transfer your official transcript ASAP!!!! It takes them 12-16 (yes TWELVE to SIXTEEN) weeks to do it!! That means if you haven't already, then you won't be able to apply till December for the Fall 16 class.

On the bright side two things:

1) they have two enrollments a year for Fall (Aug Start) and Spring (Jan Start) Semester and

2) It is a lottery.

The lottery has its pros and cons, pro being as long as you passed the TEAS with a 70 or greater and have C's or better in your pre-reqs you may apply and there's no ranking it is random. Each semester you do not get in your name is added in again. Con of course, is you're winning at the Hunger Games' Reaping and your name ISN'T pulled. I had this happen to a classmate in Stats so she moved on. My brother on the otherhand got in the first time, decided not to, then applied again and got in right away... so you never know.

Not to steer this convo off the CSUB topic, I just wanted to make sure you knew the time-sensitivity.

Just got another email.. No changes have been made to the waitlist :(

I JUST GOT ACCEPTED!! Woooo

@reallynervous CONGRATS!!! That's awesome! :)

When did you find out you were 7th on the waitlist? I'm trying to put a timeline together to see where I am on the waitlist. I'm thinking she didn't update it when I emailed her last and that's why there weren't any changes. Please let me know!

Can someone help me with the health clearance form? Where am I supposed to get that?

Ok, let's try this again. I tried responding earlier, but my app crashed and lost everything!

You have to have a NURSING physical, cbc, ua, titers, and TWO TB skin tests done. You can do this at your own physician, or through student health services (which is what I did - it made things easier, and it was cheaper since I have a $200 deductible for my insurance). These aren't things that can be done in one visit. It will take a minimum of 4-5 visits spread over about 3 weeks or so.

Just be aware that the physical requires an appointment and can't be done until everything else is completed and your labs are normal. For instance, my Hep B titer came back non reactive. Luckily they still let me schedule the physical, but when I go in I have to get a Hep B booster before they actually start the physical.

So basically, once everything is done and your results are normal, you'll send the records/results to student health services (if you went to your own physician) and then they'll give you the clearance form.

Wow, thanks a lot for the information! This definitely helps. I was trying to avoid going to the student health services because I live in LA currently but I'd drive there since it would make things easier.

Should I just go to the student health services and ask for the health clearance form? Would they walk me through the steps haha (is that what you did?)
