CSN Spring 2016

Published

I know it's incredibly early, there's not even a board for Fall 2015 and their applications are due in 2 months, but I can't wait.

Is there anyone else here planning on applying for the Spring 2016 program?

I'm taking Biology 223 and 251 this semester. I'm also taking my TEAS on the 17th so I have time to take it more than once if need be. I figure I'll have 31 or 32 points. Everything except Biology 224 (which I'll be taking during the fall 15 semester) and previous medical experience, since massage therapy doesn't count.

I'm just curious if any of my potential future classmates are here already, reading up on things like I am.

We were told at the last application workshop that at this point they're going with Kaplan.

Yes, it will be Kaplan.

Didn't have any other information besides that. We were told to call at a later date. They were still working out details.

Thank you both!

I am planning on calling the office on the 17th.

Hopefully I ll get an answer from them. :D

I just turned in my application!

Are you nervous or anxious? People tend to get that way when they turn in their application.

I have my teas this Saturday.

I met with an advisor at NSC and here's what I was told for the RN to BSN Program:

-Chemistry is no longer required.

-COM 412 is pretty much COM 101

-CHS 421 is PSY 201 and Nutr. 223(Biol 121 @CSN) combined

I only have fine art, Psy 210, Psy 201, and Nutr. 223. I took Com 215 instead of Com. 101. I wonder if I could get a waiver. I don't want to take another communication class. I wish CSN offered Psy 201.

I took Com 215 instead of 101 too. We'll have to see about that waiver. I don't want to have to take another COM class either. Did they say that they would take Nutr 223 and psy 201 instead of CHS 421?

I'm not nervous or anxious, yet. I had an advisor look it over and he said it looked perfect. I'm sure come October when it's getting closer to the selection time I will change my tune.

Are you going to take Psy 210 through CSN? I'll give you my book if you want, if it's the same one when the time comes you take it. Just let me know.

Good luck on your TEAS!

OK I emailed NSC to verify what I was told and here's what they got back to me with.

-PSY 201 and NUTR 223 (Biol 121) will/does substitute/satisfy the CHS 421 requirement. Only problem is that CSN doesnt offer PSY 201, but that can be taken online during the summer at NSC.

-COM 101 will/does substitute/satisfy COM 412 requirement. COM 215 does NOT substitute/satisfy the COM 412 requirement, so it looks like we'll be taking another COM class, which can also be taken online by the way.

-If you decide to skip PSY 201 and NUTR 223 and take CHS 421 instead, please be aware that there are prerequisites for that class: CHS 421 has NURS 319 as pre-requisite. NURS 319 has NURS 337 as pre-requisite and to my knowledge in order to take NURS 337(there is a version of this class specific to RN-BSN students) one has to be an accepted RN to BSN student so I don't see how CHS 421 can be a pre-requisite for the program.

My head is spinning in circles right now. Heres my situation. I want to be proactive and take RN-BSN pre-req. courses this fall because all my requirements for ADN program are all done but at the same time I am nearing 150% attempted credits because I was going to UNLV for Engineering and all those credits transferred over to CSN. As soon as I reach 150% attempted credits they start charging an Excess Credit Fee of $44 per credit. So if I take courses for RN-BSN program this fall, that's more than likely going to put me over 150% before I finish the Nursing program at CSN and will then have to pay the Excess Credit Fee. My financial aid will be running out soon so if I don't take those classes required for RN-BSN soon, and take advantage of financial aid, I will have to pay for them in the future. Its one of those catch 22 situations for me right now. I should have just taken pre-req classes at NSC but it too late and my financial aid already disbursed yesterday. uhhh oh well. Plus I don't want to mess up my really good GPA with classes that aren't even required for the ADN program.

Yes I am taking PSY at CSN. is the book Essentials of Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences?

You're amazing. Thank you for finding that out. This semester I'm taking A&P 2 and MUS 121 which if music appreciation. I've read in past semester posts that after our first semester we can sit for the CNA exam. I plan on taking that and the working during the summer while taking a class or 2 towards the RN-BSN. I don't have financial aid, we pay for everything so that extra class kills me, bye $300.

It is that book, I think. Hold on.

This one, right?

If anyone is taking 224 this semester you can print the lab material off CANVAS

Next Monday, I start Nursing 101. Im mostly excited with a bit of nervousness all wrapped into one massive ordeal of confusion.

Youll all find out as soon as you're excepted that just getting all your ducks in a row is one massive undertaking that is lead by total mystery. Parts of your syllabus will say to do one thing and others will tell you something else. And on top of that, required videos may not work out for you as "we don't have you in our system" (the video service, not CSN).

Scrubs bought, a stack of books up to my thigh, white uniforms sewn and readied, equipment checked and checked again, and massive amounts of reading via online and via text book done. Now all I can do is recheck everything I've done and HOPE everything is as ready as I can get it.

All of this preparation alone will weed out +/-10 students right off the bat. So be PREPARED, and know you're entering a whole new level of schooling. And I haven't even been to my first class yet....

Good luck to everyone!

I've already started my shots. Good luck Viper. Keep in touch! If you can...
