Hello,
I'm new to this site but am finding it really useful! I'm canadian but did my nursing degree in the UK, and I currently practicing in England. I'm due to sit the CRNE on the 7th October and have read some scary posts on its level of difficulty. I have the study guides and will continue to study for the next 8 weeks until I fly over to toronto to sit it. I'm extremely nervous....anybody got any further pointers for me????
I can't wait for my family to start our life in Canada pending me passing this exam (so no pressure Eh!)......and a new job in toronto would be great!!!!!
Good luck to all of those that are sitting it the same day as me!
Wow. What a test! It was nothing like the N-CLEX ( which I took 4 years ago). for some reason I thought the first book was harder than the second. I finished the second book rather quickly but the first, I was really sweating. The wording was really tricky and there were always two answers that I had to debate over. I debated over them until I was getting really confused. I just hoped and pray that I passed. Good luck to everyone!
faq: the canadian registered nurse examination (crne) says:
why does it take so long to get the results? when i wrote the nclex i had my results in a week. the nclex is administered completely differently than the crne. it is a computerized exam that is graded as it's being written. the results are electronically communicated with the board of nursing from which the candidate received authorization to write from. once the bon has the results the candidate can have the results. in canada, the paper and pencil format slows things down. there are only a limited number of testing locations in each province due to population concentrations. all exams are then submitted by mail to the canadian nurses' association in ottawa to be scored. the scoring does not begin until all 10 provinces and 3 territories have submitted their exams. once the scoring is done, the results are collated by province and then communicated by mail with the college of nursing in the province where the candidate wrote the exam. the province is then responsible for communicating the results by mail to the candidate. the process usually takes between 4 and 8 weeks, depending on the time of year and the volume of exams submitted.
Hi guys, I was looking at the CRNE October 2008 thread, and they started receiving their results on Novermber 18 (the exam was October 8th). So I hope to receive it by Nov 17-20.
Do you guys have any idea as to CNO extending the application deadline for the February exam? I know that some people who fail are sometimes able to apply to the next writing; I hope to be allowed to rewrite in February.
Their website still has November 16, 2009 as the deadline for the February 3, 2010 exam.
I know, but they extended the deadline for the October exam without it being updated on the webpage (one of the posters on this thread was able to apply after the initially posted deadline). I just hope they'll do the same for the Feb exam.
I just noticed that Manitoba allows applicants to write in February 2010 and the application deadline is only December 10, 2009. Hoping none of us will need to know this info though!!!! I think the waiting makes you doubt yourself more and more but I am hoping for the best. Interesting to see others responses. I struggled more with Book 2 than Book 1. I still think the exam is way too long and after a person reaches a certain point you just don't seem to have the strength to keep answering more questions. But I know that a person usually feels like they have failed but this is not always the case. I am holding onto the positive as that is all I have at this point.
Hi Jan,
It is pretty difficult to obtain the Canadian nursing preps in the Philippines. I visited there in August and only found testings for NCLEX & the Philippine Nursing Exam. I suggest e-bay if they ship internationally -- I saw the Lippincott one for sale. The CRNE prep guide provided by CNA can only be bought through their website http://bookstore.cna-aiic.ca/c267877p16717188.2.html although I am not sure if they will ship internationally, maybe you can try the readiness test as well. Hope this helps!
I found the October exam extremely tricky. I feel like I didn't prepare for the exam correctly and thought I had fully understood the psychosocial concept and concentrated of medical surgical and maternity. Surprisingly, I didn't realize how much I was lacking with community nursing knowledge. I am definitely anxious and almost scared to receive my test results. I start work in the beginning of November and I think I'm one of the very few hoping collecting the results take as long as it needs and maybe even longer... just so I can elongate my time at work and not have my temporary license revoked! I really don't feel confident that I passed and feel more doubtful as each day passes, no matter how much I try to think positively. I'm still looking over my notes until now and doing my CRNE tests...
Anyway, I still have a glimmer of hope and I do wish that everyone in this thread the best of luck in passing! It's only a matter of time now...
