Crisis travel assignments for Covid-19?

Updated:   Published

Hey all, hope you are all staying safe during this insanity. I was wondering if anybody has started to see crisis/high rate jobs posted yet? If so, post the specialty and company.

those of you getting info for these crisis rates, can you say what agencies? I've heard AYA Healthcare and Pride Healthcare. Any others?

In my area the offers are around $5000 per week for a 3 week commitment.

Could you please let me know the area you’re in? I would like a shorter assignment (3-4weeks) and most agencies are looking for longer than that. Thank you.

You think an agency would actually match that? Amazing if so.

I have contact info for 10k/week + food/travel stipend + lodging for NYC. I will call tomorrow to confirm, but it sounds like they are taking all sorts of backgrounds and will train.

“...pay packages of over $10,000 per week or $100,000 for a 13-week assignment. But, be prepared to enter a war zone.”

  1. NY license in 1 day
  2. Free flights
  3. Free hotel
  4. Free rental car
  5. PPE... you’re on your own ??

I was a Traveller on the West Coast and my assignment ended right before the pandemic (thankfully). I advise caution even though the high pay is very tempting for many of us. Whatever they're paying you, know they're making much more $$ while you are taking the risks on frontlines. Obviously your decision to take a crisis job depends on your situation, including your health and caregiving responsibilities.

  • Reputable agencies hiring (msg me if you want intro/referral): CrossCountry, Aya
  • Other agencies: there's a website and app called Nursefly that lists multiple positions and companies.

TIPS

  • Always read through the fine print on contracts because once you sign, you will be stuck with it.
  • Consider what state you're working in and if there are unions or strong Nursing Organizations and policies that protect nurses. For me, it would be California. (Which is not perfect either and can be very costly.)
  • Facility and work environment. I prefer an academic medical center environment for resources and access to specialists but that also means you get more complex patients. That said, your boss has a huge impact on the quality of your workalike. Listen to your gut during interviews and go with the best manager, even over pay.
  • Pay & benefits--depends what matters most to you. I've found that being a regular staff member has better stability and benefits compared to temporary work. Of course there are variations by specialty, experience, etc.

Maybe some day nurses will be valued as much as a $25 000,000 NBA player....maybe we need agents to negociate our salaries for us?

How many weeks is the assignment? They are accepting compact licensure?

Anonymous- PPE you’re on your own? Yikes. How the heck do they get away with that. And you know as a traveler they will dump the worst patients on you, likely.

I've been trying to get through all day. Phone lines are clogged. Either a horrific April fools prank, or nurses are coming out of the wood works.

....bottom line....my personal opinion.....if you're a nurse and you're looking to get rich at the expense of the sickness and deaths of strangers, and colleagues, then the problem is bigger than COVID-19....you should be ashamed of yourselves....but a true view of what being a nurse has evolved into....smfh....

I wholeheartedly disagree. The nurses who are taking these assignments had nothing to do/didn't cause the pandemic so they can't be to blame. Everyone is working for a paycheck, period, and if they are willing to possibly increase their risk because of the increased compensation then more power to them.

The people who should be ashamed of themselves, if anyone, are the hospital administrators and executives. If MY hospital would pay me to pick up extra shifts at the rate they some of these travel assignments are being paid, I would be picking up extra everyday.
