Hello,
I have started the application process for the Jan 2014 cohort at Cook Childrens. Does anyone who has interviewed or been accepted for prior cohorts have any advice for the essay that is required or interview? I have completed the whole application but get stuck when writing the essay!! So much to say in it but I can't seem to get started.
Thanks!
ALD08,
I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who kept going over questions in my head. After that interview all I could think of was everything that I wanted to say and didn't say. But when I actually took time to reflect, I don't think I did as bad as I think I did. Just playing the waiting game now. Oh, and on the scenario I did the same thing, kept thinking of things I forgot to mention!
When was your interview?
hbrn09,
Oh trust me, I am STILL thinking about my interview!! I really don't know how I did, in my mind I think it went okay.. but what I think does not matter it's what THEY thought :/ I'm SO nervous. So the Jan 2012 cohort said that some people received calls Friday NIGHT of the week of the interviews.. which is today... what time is considered "night" time?
Well. I still felt like this interview wasn't great. But better than the first. The first go around, I came out crying and spent too much money at NorthPark mall for some retail therapy. There was a panel of 5 people and it was the first cohort they implemented the case study section for.
This time, I had 3 people. And the case study was written in front of me instead of just being read orally. The interview questions were different. But they are tough. I have had interviews from a few other hospitals and I will say Cook Children's has been by FAR the most difficult and intimidating.
I interviewed today at 3 pm and there was someone else who interviewed at 4. My interview was great but I am still not sure if I did well enough to get a spot. I was told they interviewed 75 and will take between 15-25 depending on staffing needs. Also, I was told that they select based off of a point system.. you get so many points for how you answered your questions and scenario and they take the top scores.. that's what I was told on my tour. The people who interviewed me were great and really encouraging.
My tour guide also said that she started in the June cohort and was notified on Tuesday or Wednesday of the notification week.. so hopefully its early but I have also heard of people having to wait till Friday!! Good luck everyone :)
Hmm point system?! I'm not sure how I feel about this lol. So at this point our essay, gpa, etc doesn't even matter anymore? :/
This is what I heard from someone else, too, but I hope it's not true! I feel like I was able to show a lot more about what I have to offer through my essay than I was in the interview. The waiting is rough, I hope we find out earlier than Friday!
That's right. The resident that gave me my tour said you get an interview based off of the total number of points you score from essay, gpa, etc. Once you get an interview those things don't matter and you just get picked based off of your interview and points earned from your answers. I have no idea if all of that is accurate but that is what the resident told me during my tour.
