You should all be paid that hour. You should be paid for every minute you work. Also, for legal purposes you need to be documented as on the clock in the event of a lawsuit or worker's compensation claim.

If they aren't paying you report them on Monday morning. It's illegal and they know it. They are taking advantage of all of you.

Out of curiosity...how do you chart stuff that happened during that "do-over" hour?

WE DON'T GET PAID FOR IT! Management says, "What goes around comes around and over the years it evens out..." It sucks!

That is not legal, I'd wager. Check anonymously and file a complaint with your Labor Board (state or federal). Also, if you don't happen to work the short day, it does NOT even out.

You may want to check your local labour laws, I worked for a hospital that did this for years, many nurses never end up working on the spring forward time change so it was a case being forced to work for free. The nurses complained and as it turned out, it was against labour laws.The hospital administration began paying the extra hour from that point on, otherwise they were at risk of being fined.

I worked a 12 hour night last night, and believe me, that extra hour makes a difference. Especially when I never sleep/nap well during the day before a night shift. I happened to be charting at the time so watching the clock on my computer go from 0159 to 0100 was painful. Guilty of whining, just a little bit. But only to co-workers who were working with me at the time.

A very good question that I ponder each year that I go through this. I've always just had a two hour hour. At least nothing major has ever gone wrong at this time, yet.

My thought is that the first hour would be charted 0115 EDS for Eastern Daylight Savings Time (or PDS if Pacific time zone, etc.) and the second, do-over hour 0115 EST for Eastern Standard Time if you had to specifically chart in each hour.

We have to chart hourly vitals and that's how I differentiated them.

I know when I worked nights, I whined! Working 12's, it really DOES feel very long! They wanted me to work til 3am instead of 11pm this year, but they didn't end up needing me, and I can't say I wasn't grateful! :)
