Comparing how news media headlines and reports on the same story

Published

There is allot of discussion on news media bias. I thought I would start a topic dedicated to this. I find the best way to gather information of any topic is to read various sources of different political leanings.

To start the conversation, I'll submitt this news story.

A headline from Fox News and one from MDNSBC. Note the different headlines and contents.

What exactly is news worthy about the story for you?  What draws you to the story? Do you find the publicly available evidence compelling?  Would you share some reporting on that credible evidence?

What is the left media ideology and which media outlets are engaged in changing or spinning their reporting to align?  If media isn't reporting on Hunter Biden's laptop stuff does that qualify them as left media?  Outlets like the AP or Reuters?

It's well know media can be bias by omitting certain stories or under reporting.

But you didn't answer my questions. What is news worthy about the story... for you? Is there some reason that other people should want to read about it? Why do you think that all of the media outlets should cover this story about Biden Hunter?

If media platforms are not reporting on the story does that make them "left media"? What left ideology is reflected in a publisher NOT running with the Hunter story.

I would appreciate it if we could discuss these things.

Hunter Biden has not worked in Federal Government.  Plenty news stories about him including Delaware Attorney General investigation.

Jared Kushner WORKED in the White House, received $2 Billion in Saudi-backed funds but no mention on Fox News search today while covered heavily other media.

Why is that?

Hunters laptop story re missing deadline --lost interest of public as salaciousness waned, picked up by House GOP this year.  I'm more concerned about those persons who actually worked in White House influencing US interest during their time in office and immediately upon leaving that affects US citizens daily life.

Media outlets report stories of interest to their viewers, that's why viewing wide range of outlets keeps one more fully informed.

You said it didn't surprise you that only right media finds this news worthy, I said it doesn't surprise me that left media has not mentioned it at all.

Jared Kushner is no longer working for the government. Hunter Biden's father is the POTUS. His father has worked in the US government for decades.

Personally, my opinion on the HB "controversy" has nothing to do with what MSNBC wants me to think.

Nothing about the right-wing spin passes the sniff test. Meanwhile, I await with anticipation the findings of the House investigation.

Think "Twitter files".

I think that if The Laptop had anything substantive proving that the POTUS is now or has, in the past, engaged in shady activity, they would have shouted it from the rooftops during the 2020 election.

Has Fox covered HB's lawsuit?

It would seem that some tried to bring attention to Hunter Biden's laptop but were unable for various reasons.

Following a New York Post exclusive report in 2020, social media networks initially made efforts to limit the spread of the story, including Twitter, which suppressed the article and briefly suspended the tabloid's

But Kushner did and Hunter never has worked out of the White House and that is a very important distinction.  Just because Joe Biden has worked in government for decades doesn't equate to him being guilty of these speculations.

But it's not true that "left media" hasn't mentioned it all, right?  I'll note here that you are avoiding answering the fair question about what you consider to be "left media" even though you asked and I answered a similar question.

I also asked why YOU believe or think that the story is newsworthy. Why should it get more attention in a wider variety of media?

I watched the congressional hearing.  There was no conspiracy to suppress the laptop story by Twitter.  There was no plot.  The republican members of the community suggested or claimed that but the sworn testimony from their witnesses did not support their beliefs and contentions.

What do you think the Newsweek story tells us?

I still am not certain about the pedigree of the laptop.  Hunter Biden was (is?) a drunk and addict... how easy would it be for him to "lose" a personal laptop?

I never implied there was a conspiracy.  However there was a suspension of the account that originally  posted the story. The New York Post.  Users could not post on the story or share links in private messages. As affirmed by Twitter moderators and Dorsey admitting they made a mistake.

In offering fresh details on the Hunter Biden laptop story, Musk is reviving a favorite hobbyhorse of conservative media critics. In the runup to the 2020 election, Twitter decided to block any links to the New York Post's coverage of the contents of Hunter Biden's laptop. Users couldn't post the story or even link to it in private messages, and the Post itself got its account suspended for more than two weeks for refusing to delete a tweet about the story.

Twitter reversed the suspension and the restrictions, but the episode was widely seen by conservative and libertarian critics as a Biden-friendly move by a social media platform whose leaders increasingly leaned progressive. Twitter's CEO at the time, Jack Dorsey, later said he regretted the decision.

In a sworn declaration filed with the response, former Twitter executive Yoel Roth said he had participated in regular meetings with representatives of the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Homeland Security and "industry peers,” to discuss disinformation and hacking threats in the runup to the presidential vote. At those meetings, Roth said in the declaration, he was told to expect a hack-and-leak operation in October and picked up rumors that Hunter Biden would be a target of such an operation.

The testimony at the hearing cleared up all of the confusion about that suspension.  There was no government or outside interference in that private business decision.  There was nothing nefarious about the FBI contract with media companies about foreign interference campaigns. Perhaps they (Twitter) feel it was a mistake now.  No harm was sustained by the temporary suspension.

There is no big story here. IMV
