Commute

Anyone else have to commute to their nursing school?

I'll be starting a BSN program this summer at a school 60 miles from my house. I can see that getting old REALLY quick, but it's not logical for me to move since all my (very supportive) family is here, as well as a rent-free house. :)

if you're gonna be in bumper to bumper traffic, it will get old real quick. if you're going at off-peak hours and moving, or in the opposite direction of the traffic, then it will be a nice ride.

i'll be making a 30 mile commute, but it will be in the opposite direction that the rush hour traffic is going.

I live in a small town - and although the town between here and my school also has a large university, I'll be able to bypass all of the traffic because of how the highways are built. There is some traffic on this road in the mornings, but definately not bumper to bumper.

Commuting in rural Mississippi is nothing like commuting in an urban area (thankfully)! :)

I live in a very small town also, so everything is a commute. I'll be commuting one hour each way. I *think* my schedule this fall will be clinical one day, and lab 2 days, so it may only be a 3-day commute per week for me, unless I decide to do A&P 2 and/or Micro in addition.

I did decide with the high gas prices that I won't be driving my 4WD van all that way, and am going to look for a small commuter-type car with good gas mileage. I have some money coming my way from my mother's estate, so I could get a nice used vehicle to get me through a couple of years, plus then my husband will have the van to haul the 4 kids around in.

I will have to commute about 30 miles or so but we are moving from a house to an apt. so that I can be closer to the expewssway that gets me there. From the house it is about a 40 minute drive in traffic versus from the apt. it is about a 20-25 minute drive. I know it isn't much but at 6:45a.m. it makes a big difference. My fiance will have to drive the same amount of time that he was driving before, sounds wierd but true!

I have a couple of friends that will be commuting back and forth from Louisiana to Alabama three days a week. I guess you gotta do whatcha gotta do.

I've been very fortunate. My school is about 20 minutes away from my house and the hospital where I have done my clinicals is about 15 minutes. But I know there are many students in my class who drive anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour to get there.

I currently commute 35 miles/day, this fall it will be 5 days a week. However, this fall my boyfriend will also be commuting, 60 miles everyday. I'm really sure he will get tired of it. We are hoping that he will be able to drop me off some days and pick me up when he gets out of class to save some gas money. I think about moving sometimes, but it is such a hassle. Have to get new jobs, new place to live and meet new people.

i will be commuting about 45 miles, which really isnt bad since there is a nice country road with no traffic that will get me there in about 45 minutes, but im more worried about clinicals, since some of them arent in the same town as the university...at least for the first year clinicals are only one day a week and class is two...so commuting 3 days a week wont be too bad i hope. :)

I used to have a 95 Geo Prizm that got excellent gas mileage. It also ran very well and we had very little trouble out of it. Sold it to my in-laws a few weeks ago. Most Toyotas are great on gas mileage as are Hondas.

I'll have a 40 mile commute each way - all back roads through the country so no traffic problems. What's really going to be the problem is "Buying Gas"!!!! With gas prices being almost $2.00 a gallon now and probably way over $2.00 in the Fall - it will cost a fortune each week going back and forth and I'm dreading it.

Please let the rest of us know how you got a "rent free" house (I want one of those).. :) We own our home and although our mortgage isn't out of this world, it's high enough that I'll have to at least keep a part-time job through school to help with all the bills that go along with owning a home, raising 3 kids and buying all that GAS... :angryfire
