Doing chart/MAR/ nurses' note review.
Order for Hydralazine 5 mg, hold for SBP
Huh??? You held it for a HIGH blood pressure? I almost want to change the orders to read: "Hold if the top number is less than 120." Can people who went to nursing school and passed the boards really be this stupid????

She might have had a brain spasm. That does happen sometimes. Hope she really isn't that low in intelligence.
It was more than one nurse!!

That is painful. More than one? Excrutiating. I've had some "what, really?" moments with some nurses, but nothing like that.

I got nothing to add. I just came along to shake my head.

Is it possible that high schools and colleges no longer teach or that nursing schools no longer require higher level math that use those symbols?

Yes.

The right answer on the question "can some people be REALLY THAT stupid?" is always "YES"
BTW, IMHO, it is better to hold hydralazine for BP over parameter than to give it at the same time as midodrine or dutifully give b-blocker to a patient on Levophed drip. I'd seen both done:banghead:

Nope. I have to take a intermediate algebra math class for my BSN completion. Sure to use that symbol. Some just get it mixed up consistently.
People take that question "Can people really be that stupid?" as a challenge anymore to prove that people can really be that stupid.

A typo, perhaps? I'm hoping? Like maybe they meant to hit zero on the keyboard, but she hit the 5 by mistake? But then you said multiple nurses... Crazy.
