Columbia University-ETP

Published

Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.

I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?

I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.

steffiemac571 - I know somebody who's in the ETP at Columbia already and lives in Bed/Stuy. So it's possible!

i really doubt that it'll be possible to work in the first year. i went to an info session a few months back and they said the two people that failed out the first year had both tried working part time. at least after the first year, it is a possibility to work as an RN and go part time if money is an issue.

i also heard that perkin's loans get forgiven after 5 years if you pay on time every month, so at least that's something!

Congrats to everyone that got in :yeah: Just so that you guys know, CSON's Perkins Loan program lost its funding and got the axe so they don't give those out anymore. Also, if you go part-time after the first year, you will lose $10,000 from the nursing grant (it requires that you go through the masters portion full time). Best of luck guys - get ready to work your :omy: off ;)

yeah, i love brooklyn too and my lease is up in april, so it's a ***** trying to figure out what to do.

were you as taken by yale as i was? i had been on the fence between columbia and yale but after interviewing there, i really felt like they had an amazing program and faculty. i'm impresssed by columbia too, but like the idea of going to school in a college town and not feeling like a commuter.

haha, guess the b word is a no no on this site.

wow, didn't know that about the perkin's loan. i found that out at the yale interviews just two weeks ago.

I'm from Brooklyn and will be commuting. But for all of you out-of-towners that are nervous about navigating the city hopstop.com is great for directions and timeout.com has info about nightlife, theater etc.

It's not - I was going to write another word :)

Some tips for you guys:

1) Stay on top of things with a certain someone in financial aid. Get things in writing.

2) If you're going to need a dorm room, send your housing papers as soon as they arrive - overnight them if you have to.

3) CSON is kind of notorious for being disorganized - if you hear one thing from someone, it's likely that you'll hear otherwise from another.

4) Nothing arrives on time

5) Get your private loan lined up and ready to go so that it's not last-minute.

6) You'll soon be getting more information about uniforms, supplies, etc.

7) Finish your prereqs if you have any, all you need is a C now

8) Get some good rest, you'll need it!

9) Enjoy life while you still have one

10) Be excited!

Specializes in Nurse-midwifery.

Hey midwifery people! (anandam, megandan, Midwife2012, and planet612...anyone else?) I don't know if I'm going to make it to the visiting day or not, but if so I would love to meet up!

I'm still waiting to hear back from other schools to make my final decision. I actually have a phone interview with OHSU today! I'm very excited about Columbia though too. I'd be moving to NYC from the Chicago area, though I'm originally from Michigan.

Megandan, what part of MI are you from? I'm from the northwest lower peninsula (kind of near Traverse City).

Hey,

So, about that whole disorganization thing....Jose had previously told me that I had to take A&P II to finish my prereqs but after asking him repeatedly why this wasn't listed in my acceptance letter (under...we'll let you in if you finish this stuff) he just said that I had to finish my current coursework (which doesn't include A&P II) I honestly must have asked him 3 times but he kept saying the same thing....should I be worried? Also, Arlene Collado sent me an e-mail saying that there was something wrong with my FAFSA but since I've fixed it and notified her I've heard nothing. Any ideas?

Hey all I was enlightened to an easier way of going about the facebook thing - the group is open so if you haven't joined it yet just join it here - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48842923430&ref=ts Looking forward to meeting you all!

Congratulations to everyone who made it! I know you'll be great nurses taking care of patients around the word. I will be interviewing at my home school here in Hawaii for the MEPN-ANP (I like the price tag here, but was just curious to get off the rock and live in a big city). For those who didn't make it this round, keep working hard and don't give up. I have a song for all of us through this journey.... so good luck everyone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoIkMEkfWd8&feature=related

Thank you CodeBlue. I think staying in Hawaii sounds grand :) Good luck!!!

Congratulations everyone...it was not meant to be for me, at least not at this time. Though the hit was hard to take, I know God has other plans for me, so now its time to figure out what those are exactly. Its Columbia's loss, they're missing out on a great student and future Midwife. Wish you all the best!
