Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.
I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?
I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.
Guys,
I understand your $$$ woes! Be sure to look at how much you'll be making vs how much you owe. A good website is http://www.finaid.org/calculators/loanpayments.phtml which will give you an estimate of what your payments might look like. I'm not trying to deter anyone - just saying to go ahead and plan for the future. It's a lot of money.
I'm hoping Oscar can shed some light on this at visiting Day. Someone who went to an info session said he told them the average borrowed was 140k, but that students paid it back within 7 years. I'm not sure how? Maybe there are some tricks he knows about. I'm hoping to get a lot of questions answered at Visitors Day before I make a decision.
Moxie - i am the same. My family doesn't have any money, but I am also very excited about the prospect of living in NYC. Lets hope with the new government in place, that things will be much improved by the time we graduate!
Tempest - i get like $82,000 ish for tuition after the scholarship, and then add living expenses, that's for the ANP curriculum without minor credits. I don't think its quite up to 225k. (At least i hope i haven't made a horrible math error). For the masters piece we can work as RNs, and at least offset some of cost for the last 1.5 years of the program.
Sorry for the doom and gloom! I'm going to try to get some questions answered by Jose and Oscar and I'll post back whatever I hear. Hopefully it will move me forward in this process with Columbia. Am I the only person who is on such shaky ground? I'm rethinking the NP program (perhaps in favor of the CNS route) and a little bit about my specialty in WH and Onco. I'm a freaking MESS! This is how it is when you clean up your life, right? It starts as a mess and works itself out eventually. I'm really not this moronic, guys. Now who wants to share a room with me??

If we work as RNs during the Master's portion, does that mean we can't do F/T and we lose the SON scholarship?
stiejunkie! Yay another Vermonter. I'm so happy. I'm still in Burlington. Grew up in Middlebury, and went to UVM as an undergrad too. when did you graduate? I finished up in 2004, but i started late (23). Anyway - ANP with me? YAY! I'm going to be so nervous and grateful for help anyone can give me navigating the city. Jose assures me i'll be fine... but still intimidated!
Hey freyalisa, i'm around your age. I graduated from UVM back in 1998 w/ a BS in nutrition. don't worry about the big apple. it's pretty easy to navigate and despite the rep of rude NY'ers ppl are really eager to help if you're ever lost. so you'll be fine. you should lemme know when you get into town, and i'll be happy to show you around! :nuke: are you going to the 3/6? does anyone have any details about the visit day?

Tempest,
I am totally choking on the pricetag of this education as well. And I concur - the discount of 32K doesn't really put a dent in any of the $$$$$ this school wants. Unfortunately, I do have to consider whether or not getting a degree from Columbia will allow me to earn more than someone else from a lesser ranked school. I'm not from a family who has money to throw at an education that won't give me a significant return. I guess that doesn't really matter though since I am the sole financier of this endeavor, but I don't have the budget for this either. I don't know what to do. I'm excited about the program and the idea of living in NY, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Especially in this economy where I might not even have a job when I graduate. Sorry I'm a buzzkill tonight, guys.
I was looking forward to joining facebook (finally) and hooking up with future friends.
