Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.
I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?
I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.
Hey freyalisa, i'm around your age. I graduated from UVM back in 1998 w/ a BS in nutrition. don't worry about the big apple. it's pretty easy to navigate and despite the rep of rude NY'ers ppl are really eager to help if you're ever lost. so you'll be fine. you should lemme know when you get into town, and i'll be happy to show you around! :nuke: are you going to the 3/6? does anyone have any details about the visit day?
Hey! Yes I am definitely planning to visit on 3/6. I can't wait to come see the Big Apple up close and personal. I'm sure I will love it, as I'm much happier in places where there is always lots to do and see. I get bored easily! Thanks for the tour guide offer, i just might take you up on it!
I know that information is "in the mail" for visiting day, but I wish it would hurry up and get here.
I feel so yound and unexperienced compared to many of you. I'm 22 and I just finished my Bachelors in psychology. The cost is tremendous but just a note of inspiration one of my close relatives went to columbia for the etp nurse midwifery back in '92. and they worked out a decent fin. aid package for her. although she is still paying off loans, she also has a high paying job and would not have traded her columbia experience with anything. (she switched out of NYU)
caffreak - we are in the same boat. I am also turning 22 this year. The story of your close relative really made me feel better, because I am also in nurse midwifery :bby:and worrying sick that I wont find any decent job to pay off the enormous debt :uhoh21: I even started to have second thougth that maybe it's not worth to take this risk since I am from a low income family and currently just a pennyless newly college graduate. :dzed:
freyalisa - thank you so much for your earlier post regarding the school housing. Right now I am just hoping to see the financial aid and housing packages soon. Also can i ask you a big favor.:plsebeg: I dont think I am able to attend the visitor day due to the midterm. Do you think you can post some highlight/new info from the visitor day, especially the one regarding finanical aid and housing. I would really appreciate it.
Its comforting to know I'm not the only person freaking out about my finances. So thanks to all of your for sharing your stories. I'm trying to look at this as an investment in my future and it will allow me to live my dream. Its disheartening to see that so many qualified people may forgo the opportunity because of the lack of funds, myself included! I don't mind taking out loans... but I know many banks are cutting back on the loans they provide. I know Columbia said they have trusted sources, but everyone is tightening the strains these days.
Question for my ETP peeps-- is anyone retaking a prereq?? i have to retake or test out of a Microbiology class before May 27. They wouldn't take my food microbiology (@##@%#!!!)... and i haven't opened a science book in over a decade!!!! any advice on how the best way to tackle this microbio course?
Hi Midwife2012 - The financial part is really a sad thing to think about. I don't mind to take loan either, but worrying that I might not find a good job after it. By any chance, do you know anything about the certificated nurse midwife's employment rate? is it competitive to find a job in that area?
Hi all,
I made the difficult decision today to attend Columbia next year. I'm super excited to meet all of you and to be back in NY (and I feel really lucky to be given the opportunity to go to Columbia) but I'm very sad to be leaving Chicago, Northwestern, and my wonderful boyfriend behind. Anyway...on to bigger and better things, right!? I probably won't be back in NY (I say back b.c my family is from CT) until May but I'm going to start looking at apartments while I'm home on my spring break in March (I'm 21, female, and definitely not living in university housing...I've actually lived in Columbia housing and the cockroaches and I didn't make friends easily)...SO...with that said, if anyone is interested in going in on an apartment in Inwood/Washington Heights or Morningside Heights let me know so that we can be in contact (I currently live with two other girls in 3 bedroom in Evanston, IL so before we make any promises it would be nice to know how each of us likes to live so that we can enjoy living together)
Thanks all!
Which part?I 've read some of the negative feedback etc. But I don't care to listen to any of it. It's a growing program, it's a great school, and there is nothing to worry about. I think at whatever school you go to, some people will always have some complaints, and unfortunately they are the ones who like to speak up. I know there was some positive feedback on there as well. What freaked you out?

Thanks Moxie, I don't want my parents help either but unfortunately I can't even file for aid for Columbia without my parents info (filing as a 2nd bachelors instead of a masters puts me in the dependent category). I'm going to BC which is only going to be around 65k and I could file as independent (and only had to disclose my financial info...which is nothing!!). Columbia is a great opportunity for everyone but too $$ for me :-( Good luck everyone!!
