Hey Everyone!
Just wanted to start this thread for those who are all applying to the Columbia School of Nursing MDE program for 2019 Entry.
I figured we could all share our thoughts/ questions/ concerns here, or just use this to meet some new people ?
My name is Gurdeep, I'm from NY, and I'm a recent Grad from Binghamton University. Looking forward to meeting all of you ?

Interesting. Nope, I haven't gotten that email. I was actually wondering today when Columbia would provide some sort of update... They are very easy to communicate with. If you email them someone will get back to you within 24 hours with whatever info you requested

I haven't received any correspondence since my application was forwarded to faculty. If your application looks complete I'd call them. I have had to call a few times and was helped promptly each time.

Thanks for posting this comment!
I was just wondering -- and I don't know if this is a silly question, but I suppose this is one place to get them out of the way -- should we have already, or has anybody, filled out for Federal Aid or Graduate Plus Loans? Can we do that at this point?
I have not. I'm waiting for the school to send out specific instructions they may need us to follow. What I'm curious about is if we file a fafsa for this program and then end up going elsewhere, to an absn as opposed to masters program, can the fafsa be altered to match that particular program? It's confusing with each school offering a different degree.

I'm getting anxious about it too because I really like to plan ahead. I'm really looking forward to hearing from Columbia soon.
I'm waiting also. So far Columbia has been specific about when and how to do something. I believe you can ammend your FAFSA after you file for a new school. Including the type of degree you are seeking. I hope everything had a nice thanksgiving. I'm trying to be thankful for this wait lol.
I have a few questions for current students who have received federal loans to cost their education. Is it enough? Does the financial aid office work with each student to make sure they have enough to pay their rents and have money for living expenses? Have any of you had to borrow elsewhere due to the fact that the amounts calculated for you were not enough? I am wondering all of this due to the high cost of living in NYC. THANKS

Unfortunately, most students in my cohort take out the max loans while other students have parents that help out. The estimated monthly cost of living they provide to you is always bigger than what you need. Columbia switched the BSN-MSN over to the MSN-DNP so that you can borrow more loans because previous students were maxed out due to their undergrad loans, plus they can charge more for tuition :[ The program is very expensive, so I encourage you to plan out your finances and see what that looks like.
