Columbia SON MDE 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to start this thread for those who are all applying to the Columbia School of Nursing MDE program for 2019 Entry.

I figured we could all share our thoughts/ questions/ concerns here, or just use this to meet some new people ?

My name is Gurdeep, I'm from NY, and I'm a recent Grad from Binghamton University. Looking forward to meeting all of you ?

Financial Aid sent out an email about completing FAFSA 2019-2020 but no information on any financial aid events or directly about how to apply for scholarships. Everyone get the email?

I received the e-mail. I was hoping for scholarship information also. I understand they will be due shortly, as they have been in past years. Hopefully we'll have adequate time to submit everything.

Does anyone know a)how many applications they received this year for MDE and the FNP-specialty? b)when the admitted students day will be held this year and it's worth traveling to? (fingers crossed!)

Last year, Columbia received about 900 applications total and accepted ~210 into the MDE program and 15-20 each into the DNP program!

Separate question on pre-reqs: Does anyone know offhand if CU accepts credit by exam? Or has anyone else done this?

The last remaining course that I'll have to take prior to starting (if accepted) would be Nutrition. I really absolutely do not want to pay for another course entirely, but I've been looking around at CLEP and Excelsior.

(This is one, in particular, that I've just stumbled upon: Science of Nutrition - Excelsior College - excelsior.edu)

I feel you with not wanting to pay for more courses! I plan to take a credit-for-exam for Statistics at Excelsior College which I verified in advance with CU nursing admissions. I would advise doing the same for a nutrition course (and get the approval in writing!)

They did accept like AP Exam credits (for AP Lit) for the English/Composition requirement they had- but I did have to actually take the class in high school. Seems like it would be worth asking if they would accept an exam score w/o the class if you're awarded some sort of college credit.

Happy new year to you all!! So from my investigations it looks like 2018 found out on the 30th January and 2017 found out on 2nd February. So we probably have less than 20 days to wait! Good luck to you all!!

I called in last week and was told we'd hear in February - quite vague (hopefully its sooner rather than later Feb), but regardless we're finally in the home stretch!! Also consider the application was due 2 weeks later for us as compared to previous app cycles. Wishing everyone good news!

Also, separately - I read on previous forums that, for financial aid, people had to write several essays? I wasn't prompted to do any.... were others? I just hope I have everything submitted correctly.
