Columbia ETP 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.

Anyone else?!

Hi, lsubiochem15! Thus far Columbia is the only BSN/MSN program to which I have applied. I am considering the fastbacc BSN programs at Baylor and Texas A&M. Columbia is my top choice, however. I've researched other BSN/MSN programs but Columbia really feels like a better match for me.

I posted information relative to my background earlier in the thread. My background is similar to yours as I too have some experience in oncology research as well as healthcare.

Hi everyone,

I am a senior biochemistry major at LSU. My only serious experience is oncology research. I am really wondering what is everyone background and what other programs are you all applying to? what is your top choice? I myself is applying to 6 programs total only 5 of which are bsn/msn programs. Yale is my top choice but if I get into Columbia I want to do midwifery/ PhD and ultimately DNP.

H lsubiochem15! I'm applying to the Adult/Gerontology acute care specialty. I graduated with a BA in Neuroscience and Bioethics in 2011, followed by a year of work at a community clinic. I've been working in clinical research with patients with rapidly progressive dementia for the last 2.5 years, and have volunteered at a women's clinic as a health educator for about a year. I'm applying to a bunch of programs - UCSF is my first choice and Columbia is a very close second

Hi, GuiltyLove! I submitted my application a few days ago. At first I was a little nervous about clicking the submit button but I feel much better knowing that I did. I hope to meet all of you May 2015 during orientation!

Hope to meet everyone too! This is my top choice. I don't know how I'll feel if I don't get in.

I applied to pediatrics. Hope I get in :D

Do you guys know the exact deadline for the application to be submitted? I called admissions a while ago and they said it's November 17th.

I think it is Nov 17th from what I remember

Okay thanks! I double-checked and it is November 17th. I thought they didn't have it on the website a couple months ago but I found it now: Admissions and Financial Aid | School of Nursing

I just submitted my application for the psych program. I'm applying to every school that has the same pre-reqs and a psych specialty. At first I was kind of wishy washy on Columbia, but honestly, I'm pretty into it now. I studied psych undergrad, did research in community psych while a student, worked in inpatient psychiatric patient care for a year, and have worked in preventive cardiac medicine for another year. My GREs were pretty okay, my GPA is kind of wonky (something I explained carefully in my statement) and my recommenders (two professional, one academic) are all incredibly supportive. Is anyone else applying for psych? Does anyone have any actual sense of the breakdown of typical number of applicants to the psych program versus spots available?

I'm applying for psych! I've applied to a ton of schools that have a psych MSN also. Yale, NYU, Pace and Stony Brook University. I'm so nervous though. I mean, it's Columbia!

I have an AAS in paralegal studies, a BA in English and an MBA. I'm worried because I don't have a lot of experience in healthcare, but I do have a lot of experience with children with behavioral and mental health issues. Good luck! Hopefully we'll be classmates!

Hello,

Anyone have any thoughts if not having the GRE scores at time of submission will hurt my chances for acceptance?

Due to unforeseen work issues, I had to postpone GRE test till end of October (next week) but I decided to go ahead and submit everything anyway after getting the email that we're allowed to just enter the date we plan to take it. It seems like it'd be okay but now I'm wondering if this will end up looking bad in the end.

Also, can anyone share their stats? Or a link to others from the past who got accepted? I'm trying to gage if mine is even in the running for acceptance:

undergrad GPA: 3.49

prereq's GPA: 4.0

GRE score unknown: though simulation test said 160 on Verbal and 150 on Quantitative.

Hey Guys!!

Just got home from my GRE exam and feeling pretty crappy. I've done everything for the application except my personal statement and that's where I really need to show them "who i am" but how can I do that on 2 pages? Any tips?

Hope you're all well!!!!

Hey all,

I think this is my first time on here. I am applying to the Critical Care Tract. I have been swamped with all the different application requirements. Harlem 15 i think you can submit your gre scores directly on the day you take your test. The school should have them before your app is due, i think will be fine. Your grades look great, congrats! The essay was a little tough for me to cram down to two pages but i think it came out decent. I use to work as an EMT but not sure the extent of experience they are looking for. Good luck to everyone, hope to see you all in NY!

Gradschoolmeg, hopefully I'm not tooooo late with some personal statement advice for you! What worked for me was a list of key points (what drew me to my chosen specialty, experiences, strength, weakness, etc) and from there I wrote as much as I could for a few hours. What really realllly sucked was that different schools have different length requirements. Yale wants 2 pages single spaced, then I had to figure out how to carve it down to 2 pages double spaced for Columbia. Nonetheless, I recommend writing a lot and then editing it down to the most important parts. Then, beg some people to read it over and edit it for the things you overlooked. Good luck!!
