Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.
Anyone else?!
I want to go to Seattle U, Western University of Health Sciences, or Yale (because they seem to be super nice and responsive to anything you ask/need when I contacted them and had questions). I want to stay close to home since I'm in California. Yeah it's definitely gonna be expensive for Columbia especially since it's in New York and the housing costs too!!! In the end, all the programs I've applied to I would like to go to there if I got in because I'm interested in global heath.
Hi @ang117!Graduating with honors-impressive! Looking back, I talked to some friends in the program and I believe Admissions puts more weight on the personal statement than everything else. My grades, GRE scores, and extracurriculars were above some of my classmates yet they were placed in the more competitive specialty... so I think that the fault in my application was that I didn't spend too much time perfecting my personal statement.
Thanks jennnnnn!! This was helpful. I have one other question though; are you guys allowed to change specialties once you're in? I ask this because I'm interested in the nurse midwifery program, which everyone says is one of the most competitive. So I'm assuming the flexible switching specialty policy doesn't apply? I guess I'm just freaking out because I want to make sure I'm giving myself the greatest chance of getting into the university as a whole, and if that means picking a less selective specialty and switching in later, then I'll do it (if it's even possible).

At the information session they touched upon this. You can switch from one specialty to another if it isn't CRNA or midwifery. Those 2 you must be chosen for beforehand because they are so competitive and they only have a certain number of seats available. If you're accepted into ETP but not accepted into one of those two specialties (if either is your chosen field), you may be able to get into it if someone drops. But only if that happens. You cannot switch in later on.
Soo... anyone who's made it into the program bored today and want to look at an essay? :)
I know it's a long shot at a late stage, and I don't really expect it to happen. However, I've just realized I need a completely unbiased opinion from somewhere. All my friends are telling me it's great, but I really don't know

Thank you!! I wasn't able to attend the info session since I'm in CA. I really appreciate your help :)
I guess it depends on if I want to risk it, huh? It's been causing me anxiety all week!

I let mine flow. I tried to stay in order as much as I could, but I didn't let it dictate the structure. I wrote it how I felt it best fit together.
