Coloring book or no?

I havent taken A&P yet, but I already have my coloring books! lol

I figure it cant hurt!!

Thanks for all the input, everyone. I just went to half.com and purchased an anatomy coloring book for 10.49 with shipping. It is from a user, but is supposedly never used. I figure, for ten dollars, it's worth the try!

I did my coloring and it was a big help for me. I could picture the body part etc. in my head during the tests. Also, our instructor gave us 5% of our overall grade just for coloring it. That made a grade letter difference for me. In the end I walked away with a B in the class. All thanks to the coloring book. With or without the coloring book I am sure you will do fine. Good Luck

I have 2 of them and they aren't as detailed as I'd like. I already know the names of the bones, it is all the bumps and grooves I need to remember. They are pretty cheap though, under 10$, so you may want to invest in one.

For those of you who used the coloring books ...

How time intesive was it? Was it time well spent?

Coloring book? You guys actually got to use coloring books:uhoh3: . I just finish taking A&P II this past spring with the best professor I have ever had. For both A&P I and II we had to submit a skecth that was worth 15% of our grade at the end of the course. During the first week of class she gave us a hand out that had about 250 body parts on it. We were to draw each one in a skecth book and being the procrastinator that I am did a little bit here and a little bit there and about 2 weeks before finals I found myself staying up over night trying to get the last few done. But they were great. Every now and then she would give us pop exams were we had to identify the different parts of the body. It also help to know the part and being able to visiualize it during lectures. She wasn't really concern with the quality of the drawings as long as she could tell that you put an effort toward the assignment and could identify the part. If I were you I would get it.... bets the heck out of drawing:rotfl: . Time consuming, but so worth it!

Maybe you would feel better about it if you understood your learning style better. Try this link. Test yourself on several of the options offered. I learned I am a visual learner, so the coloring book and reading is beneficial to me. I also learned how to make my study time more effective. BTW: A&P is hard, so do not be discouraged. Just stay in there and soak up what you can.

I didn't use the coloring book. I did xerox the photos from the book. Then I would whiteout the lables for each mucscle and copy that sheet again. Then I could fill in the blanks for the muscles and learn them that way.

I did something similar. I put little post its over the name of the bone or muscle or whatever and made sure I knew it. No coloring books for me, sounds neat though . Flashcards worked fine. Also I stayed in lab as long as the teacher let us to use the real models and bones. So many people just skipped lab and wondered why they got a C?!

I didn't use the coloring book, but what I did was made many photo copies of the particular system we were studying and then I would go back through and label the bones, muscles, organs from my head. I learn well by repetition.

I've been wondering if I should get a coloring book for A&P. How many of you use coloring books...is it beneficial or not worth the money?

They are worth it, and you can find some very inexpensive ones. Also, when the Halloween stuff hits the shelves (probably next week lol!), those cheapy plastic skeletons are GREAT for learning bones!
