I'm not a CNA, have never been one- but I wish I had been. I appreciate CNAs, and I am trying to convince my brother to become one. The job market is wide open for CNAs and he needs a job with benefits. Right now he makes in the $7/hr. range which is hard to live on, even when working 40hrs./wk. Unfortunately, he is pretty much the only income in his household right now while his fiancee is out of work and he could not afford to spend 4-6 weeks in training if the pay is not much more than he makes now. So, if not too intrusive, how much do you make working as a CNA, and do you work in a hospital, LTC, or for an agency? TIA
I work on the Intensive Care Unit of Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware and I only make 9.13/hr plus differential as a CNA. Christiana Hospital 40 mins north of here though pays 14.50/hr as a Patient Care Tech, although I don't know if they give differential. I have to work overtime every single week just to make enough money to make ends meet and I don't have a car so I cant drive to Christiana to work at the higher paying job.
I make $10/hr for base pay but since I work evenings and weekends I actually make $12/hr. I work my ass off some night, other nights I am bored.
I would personally never do this for a living but it is great experience for me while in nursing school! I've learned a ton and it puts me ahead of other students who have no hospital experience.
I just finished school in march but unable to find employment. i live in the atlanta area. the nursing home positions pay like 7 and 8 an hour so i have heard. the jobs i have applied for say i need at least a year experience. i hope i dont forget what i learned. i am trying to get into a good lpn program but they all have wait list. so i need to gain employment as a cna in the mean time. any advice
