I'm not a CNA, have never been one- but I wish I had been. I appreciate CNAs, and I am trying to convince my brother to become one. The job market is wide open for CNAs and he needs a job with benefits. Right now he makes in the $7/hr. range which is hard to live on, even when working 40hrs./wk. Unfortunately, he is pretty much the only income in his household right now while his fiancee is out of work and he could not afford to spend 4-6 weeks in training if the pay is not much more than he makes now. So, if not too intrusive, how much do you make working as a CNA, and do you work in a hospital, LTC, or for an agency? TIA
Reading some of these pay rates are outstanding to me. I know pay rate will change with location and experience...but dang! lol.
I worked at a nursing home in East Texas and made base which was 8.25--and I started working right after health care workers got some kind of overall raise. (so I'm saying they made less than that at some point.). I then moved to an assisted living home, where I am now, and got bumped up to 8.50. They said I would get a .50 raise if I learned how to pass medicine with them, but I never got that. I got a cost of living raise, which was about .14. Oh, and I was with the nursing home 2 years (but the first year I was a housekeeper) and I've been at this job almost 2 years now.
:\ Honestly, I tell everyone who wants to be a CNA to think twice. It's hard work with little pay here in East Texas.
