CNA salary

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I'm not a CNA, have never been one- but I wish I had been. I appreciate CNAs, and I am trying to convince my brother to become one. The job market is wide open for CNAs and he needs a job with benefits. Right now he makes in the $7/hr. range which is hard to live on, even when working 40hrs./wk. Unfortunately, he is pretty much the only income in his household right now while his fiancee is out of work and he could not afford to spend 4-6 weeks in training if the pay is not much more than he makes now. So, if not too intrusive, how much do you make working as a CNA, and do you work in a hospital, LTC, or for an agency? TIA

Hello, :typing

It all depends in what state you live in. I work in White Plains, they start about 15 an hour and that does not include shift differencial.

If you live in San Francisco, one of the hospitals there start you with 23 an hour. In Seattle, Washington, one hospital starts their techs with 20+ an hour. So you need to research the area and see what they offer.

Hospitals usually pay more than private doctors.

Also there are schools that have evening classes and saturdays & sunday only.

Good luck!!!:coollook:

Does anyone know what the starting pay is in San Diego? And do they hire students that are half way through their program?

CNA's do not get paid enough.

I work in a LTC facility in Knoxville, TN, and I was started off with no prior experience at $9.50 for second shift. I do believe that will go up slightly after six months. I know someone working first shift, with four years' experience, who makes a little over $11. However, because I work in a state veterans home, our benefit package is probably above average. I do know of one facility in town that pays $13 an hour, but I don't know how much experience or what shift.

I've only inquired at one hospital, and the pay was less than one could make working at a fast food restaurant.

I live and work in small town usa. I started out at 7.00 and once I was certified I received 8.25.

But then again, I took the classes there for free, once I passed their classes I was hired to work there, then they paid for my State Boards, then after 90 days I got a 150.00 bonus, and I should be getting another bonus here shortly.

But seriously 8.25 is not enough to live on.

Hi guys,

Like I said before it all depends where you work and live. If you go on the website www.job.com, (not www.jobs.com, differrent site) it will give you an approximate salary for the job in the state that you are applying.

I was looking at a company by the name of Medical Staffing Network, and one of their sites were paying $19 an hour in California.

Best of luck.:heartbeat:nurse:

WOW, Medical Staffing Network is good.

thanks you GigiNYC!:yeah:

Thank you GigiNYC, I didn't think about going the staffing agency route. I've been trying at all the hospitals, but since I am still in school and not officially a CNA yet, it's difficult to get in. I'm going to call them to see if they can help. Thanks again:)

My first job at an LTC, I made 7.50 (for 12 hour shifts, NOT ENOUGH.)

My second LTC job, I made 9.25. (8 hour shifts, 2nd shift.)

I then worked at a hospital and made 8.77 (first shift, 8 hours).

Now I'm at a memory enhancement center at a retirement community and I make 10.50 (8 hour shifts, nights).

This is in Indiana, for reference.

Specializes in CNA.

I work part-time in a LTC facility in PA and I started at $15.25/hr for 2nd shift. I believe 3rd shift is more and 1st is less. I couldn't live on what most of the other places were offering.

How much does a CNA with no experience in Nj make? I am in the process of finishing my cna classes.
