CNA salary

I'm not a CNA, have never been one- but I wish I had been. I appreciate CNAs, and I am trying to convince my brother to become one. The job market is wide open for CNAs and he needs a job with benefits. Right now he makes in the $7/hr. range which is hard to live on, even when working 40hrs./wk. Unfortunately, he is pretty much the only income in his household right now while his fiancee is out of work and he could not afford to spend 4-6 weeks in training if the pay is not much more than he makes now. So, if not too intrusive, how much do you make working as a CNA, and do you work in a hospital, LTC, or for an agency? TIA

i was just hired by a big nursing home in PA and they are paying 11.66 an hr for morning shift plus 3.00 more on weekends. they pay you while you take their c.n.a. course and also after 1 year they offer full tution reimbursement if you go to the local community college.

i too live in PA, what part do u live in ? i live in bloomsburg. i take my state cert on the 26th this month. My employer sponsored me for my class and pays for the test. ALthough, i work full time 3rd shift with no shift differential offered, no benefits , no insurance. i get paid 12.13 an hour. I am strongly considering going AGENCY because they pay on average here 14-15 an hour. Of course there would be no guarantee of hours that way.

Specializes in LTC.

I just started working in one of the local hospitals. I make $14.50/hr plus $0.70 shift differential and $0.25 weekend differential.

i live in the poconos. the nursing home is about 45 min away from me in nazareth.

Specializes in Onc/Hem, School/Community.

I work at a hospital while attending nursing school. I make $13/hr per diem. I am in the southwest USA.

i worked as a nurse extern, which in my hospital, you are a CNA in their minds, i started at 13.30, but the regular CNAs started at 11 i think.. but i know a few poeple there that have a pretty nice life and they work full time CNA. i know the hospital down the street from me starts theirs at 16.

I work at a LTC facility in chester county PA. I make 17/hr but I have to work 24 hours and I work 6:30p-7a Fri and sat. and I am on a scholarship for my nursing school. They pay 60% of school.

I use to live in Delaware County, PA and I worked at Fair Acres a very large long term care facility in Delaware County I don't know if you have ever heard of it.

Just curious what facility that you work for offers such great things? Do you get benefits?

Wow thats all they pay at Kent General in Dover? I thought it was more than that, I live in Milford, just moved here from PA and am looking to find a CNA job in the area.

I'm not a CNA, but my wife is going to a 7 week class offered by Nightingale Nursing. Just to get an idea of how much they make, I went to the local hospital (San Ramon Regional Medical, East Bay California) and asked them about their Nurse Assistant job posting. They said they prefer a CNA, I guess first year nurse student is ok; however, they are starting at $18-$24 as base hourly. Now remember a 2 bedroom condo/apartment in this area cost $400,000. Anyway I heard they are one of the lowest paying in this area.

Here in Washington the hospital websites say they pay about 12.65-12.87 for an experienced cna and once you've completed the first year of nursing school, you can work as a tech for about 13.50.
