CNA salary

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I'm not a CNA, have never been one- but I wish I had been. I appreciate CNAs, and I am trying to convince my brother to become one. The job market is wide open for CNAs and he needs a job with benefits. Right now he makes in the $7/hr. range which is hard to live on, even when working 40hrs./wk. Unfortunately, he is pretty much the only income in his household right now while his fiancee is out of work and he could not afford to spend 4-6 weeks in training if the pay is not much more than he makes now. So, if not too intrusive, how much do you make working as a CNA, and do you work in a hospital, LTC, or for an agency? TIA

I work a private duty case in Illinois on 3rd shift. I make $11.00/hr.

I am working as a home health caregiver, I make 10.25 an hour with health, dental, 401K, Life benefits

I am a CNA at an Assisted Living facility in Ohio. I make $9.30/hr. but I have been working at the same place for over 2 years and have yet to get a raise. So basically I have been making $9.30/hr. since I started.Yipee yay.No one ever seems to get a raise there, not even if you get a good annual evaluation.

I live in Wausau WI. I just was hired at a LTC for $10.96 per hour. In 90 days I will receive a $.50 an hour raise. I think this is an acceptable wage for this area.

I live on the eastern shore of Maryland and I am working with Disabled and mentally disabled patients, here I start out making $9.00 and after my training period(90 days) I will get either a .50 to .75 cent raise depending on how many employees they hire. Right now I am working 7 days on/7 days off 11:00pm-9:00am and will be working 2-3 days a week during the day shift until I go back to college in January. The day shift makes $8.50 an hour but for around the area the pay is not bad. The good thing about the place I work is that you can decide what shifts you want to work. When I am going to college I will work Fridays 3:00pm-11:00pm and both Sat and Sun 9:00am-11:00pm and will be making $10.00 an hour at that point.

Wow.

I need to move where ever ANY of you guys are living.

I work in small town-rual Texas, 10,000 people or so. I just got hired on at the big hospital in my area, and I make, hold your breath...6.15 an hour as a NA. I will work nights and get a 15% shift diff. But still.

I just moved here from Washington DC, where I worked as a nanny and gymboree music and play teacher. I earned $15 an hour. I have NO idea how I am going to make ends meet. I suppose a lot of overtime is going to be in my future.

As it is, I will be working an 84 hour work week. 8 of those will be overtime (time and a half) so that will help. Any other shifts I pick up will be overtime as well.

Are there any specialties I can get certifed in that I might be able to do PRN work with? That might help if I had a higher base doing PRN.

Regardless. I am doing this for the opportunity and my future. It is so exciting!

(I will have to keep remembering that when I get my paychecks and just want to throw in the towel!) :)

:)

84 hours a week and only 8 are overtime? Isn't anything over 40 overtime? CNA is really demanding work. You are going to need downtime. If you're working towards nursing, you don't want to get totally burned out. No offense, but I wouldn't want a CNA with your schedule caring for my loved one. Take care.

Yeeeahh, about that..sorry. *smirk*

I said 84 hour work week, I ment "pay period"!

36 hours one week, 48 hours the next.

Sorry. :)

Specializes in LTC, Subacute Rehab.

The facility I work at trains CNAs - $9.24 / hour in training, and I think after cert. as well.

They're starting to train LPNs as well, but only fully certified NAs are eligible.

:rollI work at a hosptial, currently I made below $10.00 but it took me 3yrs to get to that rate.I am soon due to head back into school, most likely with in the next yr I should be starting classes. My goal is to work in the ER, the OR as a CRNA, maybe do some flight time as well. I can say, in my 13yrs pre-Hospital experiance as a Firefighter and adn EMT, I want where the action is.....

Specializes in Psych.
At the hospital I just applied at they start you at $9.47/hour without experience and before shift differential. LTC around here pays a lot less. At the hospitals that use Patient Care Techs, the pay is a little higher and they train you.

I hope you don't mind me being nosey, but which hospital did you apply to? Mercy, perhaps? Just curious~:smiley_aa
