  1. I just completed an OB rotation and it went very well.
  2. These responses are great! But, what I find really interesting is the response that I receive from some of the females in school. I often wonder if they (females) actually think about what they are are about to say before they speak the words.
  3. Prior to nursing school I completed one two year degree and a four year degree. Now, I attend an ADN program, and I can say this is the most difficult time I have had academically, but, it is not impossible to pass either. I often believe that most things are possible if a person uses their brains, and works hard at achieving one's goals. Finally, do not believe everything you read or hear about nursing school. People's experiences often shape their experiences which then alters the experience that they are describing to another individual. Kevin
  4. Not only did she ignore the pink warning on the medication, but she completely violated several other hospital protocols in the administration of this medication. Not to mention the patients 5 rights for medication administration. Nurses that are this grossly negligent should have there licenses revoked for good, plus be prosecuted criminally. Because this nurse allowed more than just a simple med error to happen. Now, if individuals disagree with what I have written, then ask yourself these questions: 1) Would you want a nurse who disregarded protocol for medication administration taking care of you? 2) Would you want a nurse who disregarded protocol for medication administration taking care of someone that you loved very deeply? Now, I am all for giving medical professionals legal immunity in medical errors. But, this case is way too far over the line for my approval of legal immunity.
  5. A very important point to look at here is that a lot of hospitals offer tuition reimbursement to new nurses entering into the profession. Also, there is loan forgiveness from National Health Service Corps. Here is the web address: http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/ Finally, perhaps looking at the student loans as an investment will help.
  6. I just recently begin both a RN nursing program and a new job as a CNA. The good part is I really enjoy school. The really sad aspect is the job as a CNA is turning into a nightmare because I was sent home today because a fellow coworker reported that I was being rough with the patients. Consequently, the place I work for is required to due an investagation into the allegations. Eventhough, I care for these people like they are my parents. I am really sick over this situation today. I am afraid that I this could mess up school as well. Also, I am seriously considering terminating my employment when I have a hearing with the DON because I am really sick and tired of the games that go on at work. I really need some experienced advice here on what to do. I would appreciate any insight at all. Kevin
  7. I attached a wage study that I recently read from Medscape.com, "Which Pasture is Really Greener? A Research Note on Salary Studies." I actually discoved it to a very informative article. Which Pasture is Really Greener Nursing Wages.pdf
  8. When I lived in Eau Claire, WI, a guy smuggled a loaded gun into the psych ward of one of the hospitals then shot himself in the head and died. Turns out one of the administrators of the psych unit cut the nursing staff by 1/2 to make the psych unit more profitable. The administrator of this unit was terminated immediately after this incident.
  9. I live in Wausau WI. I just was hired at a LTC for $10.96 per hour. In 90 days I will receive a $.50 an hour raise. I think this is an acceptable wage for this area.

  11. I am really glad that I asked this question. Thanks to everyone who has responded. Kevin
  12. Fellow Humans: I am asking you to take some time to share some of your experiences of working with doctors and how they treat you. I have decided to go into nursing, and I am curious about how doctors treat nurses. Thanks Kevin
  13. Actually I was kicked out of a nursing program for missing a clinical for my CNA class. What happened is I was accepted in to the local CC nursing program at the very last minute before the start of the beginning of the semester. However, in order to begin I needed to complete the CNA class. Unfortunately, this also was during the same time that I had final exams at the university, and I was working 30 hours a week as well. And the clinical times were always on different days of the week and different times as well. So what ended up happening is that I wrote the wrong date for a clinical and showed up the following day for it instead. When I was told that I missed a clinical; I could not believe it! I have spent 1 ½ years of my life working on just getting accepted into a nursing program. Then after I was told that I was not qualified to become a nurse because I missed a clinical, I showed the instructor for my CNA my date book and explained all that I had going on, and this was a very honest mistake. Well, to make a long story short: I am on another waiting list at a different CC college. Even the Dean of the nursing program at the university nursing program that I was attempting to get into told me "you do not deserve to be kicked out for this. Everybody makes mistakes."
