  1. Is that still standing? I live in Milwaukee, hence why I ask.
  2. I too REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY want to go to Stritch for my ADN, my biggest fear right now is $. I am currently on the wait list at MATC for their CNA course and plan to quit my current job and work in the field so I can after 1yr of being a full time employee at a St Lukes, get a full scholarship. I currently only make 21K a yr as a full time flight attendant AND have to work constantly changing hours, grr!
  3. "I also believe that the city gives the CNA class for free, but you have to be on public assistance, and there is also a long waiting list." YEESH! That is way to much of a hassle! I would much rather have the bandaid effect (pay the money and just get it done and over with..just rip it off) LOL! Get me into the field much faster without having to tap dance around waiting for that magical number to pop up...no mam! LOL!
  4. http://pennhealth.hodesiq.com/careers/joblist.asp Thats for Penn Hospital only, pages upon pages of jobs!
  5. Penn, Temple, several agencies in the PHL area have openings posted on their sites
  6. Philly is affordable and has a TON of jobs!!!
  7. Move to DC, Philly or NYC then...tons of jobs!!!!!!!!!
  8. This original posting answers one of my questions. I used to be a CNA in Dover,DE back in 2006/2007 and I only was paid 9.00 per hour while I worked 7P-7A on the ICU. I loved the work and I dearly miss it, I live in Philadelphia now and have thought about taking the course at the Red Cross here in Philadelphia but never knew how much local hospitals pay. She said she is making 15.96/hr, that is great! I am currently a flight attendant and can't wait to quit!!!!!!
  9. I am not sure what cities you are all located in, but I have resided in several major cities on the east coast with the current being Philadelphia,PA, and I still see job listings all over the place.
  10. My flight crew and I were able to get out before the airport shut down, but of course it didn't come easy. The hotel felt like a jail cell since there wasn't a single window that wasn't covered with plywood. There wasn't a single place to get anything to eat at all and we hadn't eaten since we left Wilmington, NC so when it was all said and done, we went 26hrs without food. The hotel originally told us that we were being evacuated at 12PM to the airport and the hotel was shutting down, well that didn't last long. We were all woken up at 8AM by the front desk calling our rooms to tell us to be ready to evacuate at 11AM to the airport. Mind you, I don't work my flight out until 4:22PM. We got to the airport and I have seen jungle monkeys with more sophistication than these people. The gate agents were announcing "we have 20 seats open on this flight, first come first serve any airline voucher!". At that second you saw people running and jumping over chairs and pushing people down on the floor just to get one of those seats on an earlier flight. They didn't care if you were elderly or a toddler, they were running you over! There was garbage everywhere! To top it off, there were people sleeping in every inch of the airport! I went to the bathroom to do what us humans normally do and open the stall to see this man had fallen asleep on the toilet seat!? It was bad enough to crawl over the endless mounds of toilet paper and paper towels that were all over the floor, but that took the cake! A lot of fliers were upset at Jetblue because they stopped flying at 1pm and the airport was open until 6pm. Either way the whole experience will definantly stick with me and I have NO plans of going to New Orleans again anytime soon! On a lighter note, so you say white pants and navy top? That seems to be common for most CNA courses in the USA. I just bought the current CNA workbook and study book that CSCC uses and will be picking them up soon from the downtown bookstore. I may not need to take the class after all, maybe just a good review book!
  11. Are you sure it was navy blue or was it ceil blue? P.S. Anyone reading this...PLEASE pray for me and my flight crew, my layover is in New Orleans tonight and we work the flight out on Sunday at 4:22PM as long as our aircraft gets here on time. If it gets here to late and we can't take off by 6PM, then we are stuck here!!!
  12. Anyone know what the CNA uniform currently is at CSCC? I already have my CNA certification but I have been out of the field for 18 months now and want to get back in, but I want to take a brush up course. Besides, the course is only like $500.00 so it isn't that bad. I used to be a CNA on the ICU of Kent General Hospital up until 18 months ago and I loved it, but I always wanted to give a try at being a flight attendant and I have now and I am ready to start my future in healthcare for good!!! I had enough hours to renew my CNA certification, which expires October 14th 2008, so I am not taking the course to recertify, just to brush up my knowledge. Besides, you can never have to much knowledge! :-)
  13. October 15th, 2008 I am re-eligable for FAFSA. I defaulted on my student loan from fashion design school (which i went to for one year, waste of my time). I couldn't afford the payments for the first yr that I was a flight attendant and now I am on what they call the "Rehabilitation Program". It is where you pay $100.00 a month via direct debit from your bank account and after your ninth on time payment, you are no longer in "default" status. That ninth payment will go through on October 15, 2008. There is a wait list anyways on the RN program, just like every other college in the USA. While I am waiting should I just go for my LPN to get the ball rolling and then when I can get a seat in the RN class I will already be half way there? Or is that a bad idea?
  14. I have poor credit (515 FICO score) and I only make about 18,500 per yr working full time as a flight attendant. I am so eager to go back to school and I was accepted to CSCC but I told them I wanted to wait until Sept 2010, when in reality I want to start ASAP. I figure in the mean time I can pay off the debts on my credit report and open two secured small limit credit cards to build a credit history. Anyone have any other ideas to help make my rags to riches story become a reality? My mother is in the same exact situation as I am but also has my 16yr old sister to care for...she resides in DE and I reside in OH with two roommates. I try to keep my expenses as low as possible to send what ever I can to creditors whenever I can.
  15. I am a 25yr old male and I used to be a CNA on the ICU for a short period of time and loved it. The only reason that I left is because I have always had this itch to be a flight attendant and see the world. Well, lets just say that I scratched that itch and it wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be. 14-16hr duty days but only getting paid for 6-7hrs and very short layovers. Starting super early one day and then working all day and then doing it again, needless to say, it is time to move on. I want to go back for my RN really bad!!! I first went to college for Fashion and I had a small student loan from that that I am paying off until August 15 2009. When I took the FA job, I took such a drastic paycut that I wound up defaulting on the student loan and it will not be reported as current again until October 15, 2008. I sadly also defaulted on my credit cards so it hurt my credit score, which in turn makes it hard to get student loans outside of Stafford loans. I am working on fixing that and by this time next yr it will all be just a bad memory, but I need advice on how to go back to nursing school affordably. I am planning on attending CSCC in Columbus OH. The current cost is 79.00 per credit hour, which is much lower than a university. I currently only make 18,000/yr working full time as a flight attendant so I can't really save much btwn living expenses (that I have somehow managed to minimize to very low numbers) and paying off debts. I will be applying for FAFSA, but other than that, admissions told me over the phone that I am just best staying with the airline for another 18 months until I am debt free and a few months has passed of stable clear credit reporting, in order to get a decent student loan. Any other ideas?
