Will your cna be taken if you fail a drug test at your orientation iam askin for a friend..
Sounds like you could use some education on the disease of addiction. I hope your patients can't feel your misguided judgments. It is not a lack of self control or character, but I don't expect to change your mind with a post on all nurses. No one is immune to addiction. Consider yourself lucky that your life circumstances haven't included living with addiction in some way or form.
Although this thread had me cracking up. I do agree that substance abusers should not be called such harsh names. As a nurse I have encountered pts with HIV related to drug use sharing of needles and never even thought any less of them Or called them a "dope head". genuinely sympathetic of their disease as I were to be with any other disease. Op there is a category on here for recovery/addictions that might be of some support.
Because this question is never posed by a person on a prescription medication with a valid script.
Some ofyou guys are really harsh and assuming too much, just answer the question and move on. Why assume she's a dopehead or her "friend". Some people are on prescription medications with VALID proof, which of course would show up as positive on a drug test.

If that were the case, the person in question would probably disclose that he or she was on a prescription medication which would show up. Most people who use illegal narcotics aren't going to disclose that sort of information up front.

This.
And the OP (or AN staff) has cleaned up the original question if anyone needed clarification.

The OP has not been back to clarify said "friend"...
