cna + drug testing

Will your cna be taken if you fail a drug test at your orientation iam askin for a friend..

^^^^^^thats because they probably looked it up!

Drug abuse is usually not tolerated in any position. If I understand the very incoherent question as "Will your CNA be taken away if you fail a drug test at orientation?" then the answer is probably. I would advise "your friend" to go into work where they will not be caring for real, fragile human beings. My advice is to get clean and stay away from nursing work. In what world would you assume you could use and still continue such demanding work with real people who could get injured or killed due to your drugged-up negligence? Grow up.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that the only word they got right was also the biggest one, orientation? Lol

Yes, and I'm quite amused that "drug test" was spelled out perfectly. Just for the irony.

Would you kind phrase the question in words? We won't hold it against you if you actually spell out words and form a sentence.

Well ur cna l be taken if u feel a drug test at ur orientation iam askin for a friend..

Is this why we get paid so little?... Jeez anyone can get a CNA license

Wow, what did you just say? Seriously. The text speak and grammar were so atrocious, I truly cannot tell what you're asking.

I think you mean: tell your "friend" to quit doing drugs. Throw in really big air finger quotes while you say it...

Tell your friend to quit doing drugs.

I'm assuming you're worried about pot, because as far as I know all other illegal drugs are out of your system within a matter of days. While I won't be judgemental like some commenters I will say that if you test positive you will lose your job and your certification. Even if you go to CO or WA where it's legal, you will still lose your job because it is still federally illegal, you just won't go to jail if you are caught with it in your possesion.....hope this helps.

I read the end of the OP as; "I am asking for a friend." As in, she is asking for support. If you have a problem with using drugs, reach out to a family member or close friend and tell them you need help. Until you know your pre-employment drug test is going to come back clean, I wouldn't recommend applying for a CNA position. I wish you the best, take care of yourself... you are worth it!

:sarcastic: If saying dopeheads don't belong in nursing makes me judgemental, I'm fine with that. In fact, I'll wear a big pink badge proclaiming myself such. Actually, I think dopeheads don't belong in any workplace.

I have no respect for people who let substances run their lives. Sorry, not sorry.

Sounds like you could use some education on the disease of addiction. I hope your patients can't feel your misguided judgments. It is not a lack of self control or character, but I don't expect to change your mind with a post on all nurses. No one is immune to addiction. Consider yourself lucky that your life circumstances haven't included living with addiction in some way or form.

Precisely. I'm also not apologizing for being harsh in my comment. These are real people we take care of--real people who could really get injured or killed due to caregiver negligence. Anytime a fellow caregiver at my facility tested positive for drugs (and it happened three times), they were fired on the spot. There is no tolerance and there shouldn't be any. Go do general labor in a warehouse or something and let those of us who are sober do the caregiving; my junkie future brother-in-law seeks out general labor positions that are notorious for not giving a drug test. I would go so far to say drug testing to get certified as a nursing assistant should be required as part of the state exam; if you fail it, you automatically fail the entire test, you do not earn your CNA title, and you can't retest for another year.

I believe addiction is a real disease (I used to self-injure; believe me, I know addiction is real & hard to overcome), but I think it should be treated before entering our line of work. Get yourself sorted so you can provide the best care. I waited until my mental health was sorted before entering this field. It is a wonderful feeling to have overcome something and use it to build yourself as a better caregiver; caregiving starts with taking care of yourself first.
