Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.
C'mon now!
Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.
C'mon now!
The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.
All together: C'mon now!!
Some things just make me shake my head.
Im so thankful for my 19 years in the hospital, think it makes me a better school nurse. I cant physically do it anymore. The 12 hour shifts that turned into 16, were killing me. I think every job, speciality, and experience make us better. AND THANK GOD we all have different interests, because I would never be able to work in long term care or oncology. Kudos to the nurses that do! I get a lot of slack from my nurse friends about what a "cush" job school nursing is. Honestly, some of the wouldn't last a day in the trenches. Go School Nurses GO!!!!!
4th grader: "The floor fell on my face"
Me: ...stunned silence... huh? What on Earth do you mean the FLOOR (points to floor) fell on your FACE?!
4th: Not that floor (points down) THAT floor (points up)
Me: The ceiling? That's a ceiling, not a floor. Also HOW?!?
As it turns out, he stood on a counter to attempt to fix a ceiling tile and it fell on his face. At least this time he wasn't climbing into the ceiling...C'Mon Now!
Parents! Had one send in a huge bottle of liquid meds. No communication. The teacher found it in the student's backpack and had her bring it to me. I sent paperwork home with student who brought it back signed.....but not filled out. I emailed mom reminding her that parents must bring in medication and that I needed the paperwork filled out with the medication, dose and time to be given. Mom is now confused, she can't fill out paperwork because I have the medication, and can I send the medication home with the student so that the parent can bring it in?

How old is the student, what is the medicine, and how does the student get home?
Age 11, SPED kid, by bus, prescription pain medication.
Our district policy is: No students are allowed to possess prescription or non-prescription medications
on district property or at district-sponsored events unless specifically approved by
parent/guardian and district medical personnel, and a medication permission
form on file or in student's possession.

I would make the parent pick it up
Ran an immunization report and accidentally sent out exclusion notices to every student in my school, (925). If I could get parental responses like that when I really need them, I would be at 100% compliance in about 30 seconds. It felt like the only parents that didn't call or email were the ones from which I actually needed immunization records.
Ha! This happened to me a few weeks ago, but I was on the receiving end. I got three emails in an hour saying that I never submitted my son's emergency medical information and permission to treat. I know I did but I resubmitted it a anyway. About an hour later I got a fourth email about it. I finally realized something must be wrong with the system. Sure enough the following day the school nurse sent out an email to everyone apologizing that she accidentally sent out a letter to everyone through the system and in trying to fix it, sent out three more, LOL

At least you guys don't get people getting angry for you working at a school like a SN. "You're NOT A NURSE! You can't work at school!" Ha... watch me now. *3 years later*
You were saying?
