I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!

@DT70 What program are you applying to? What state are you in? I have to CLEP Eng comp I & II because they are more then 10 yrs old.

NC. I'm just going by what the student advisor told me. My HS transcript just arrived today. Registering tomorrow. If college transcript doesn't show up before start of class I will have to take the reading/math entrance test.

Nice to have a place to fit in! 30+ crew is taking over. I'm a 30 year old guy with two kids. I'm starting an Accelerated BSN on Monday!!!!! I'm nervous though. I keep telling myself, its just a 2 year program and it'll fly by. I'm working fulltime through it so, I already know its going to be rough. Good Luck everyone, and I wish you all great success in your future nursing endeavors! 30+ crew idea is the bomb!!! We rock!

Hi! 33 (34 this month) two kids (13 &2) and changing careers after 15 years as a Casino dealer, pit boss, and table games HR coordinator. Following my passion after a layoff. I want to get my BSN but just discovered California Retraining Benefits (a branch of unemployment) will only pay for ADN RN or LVN. So I'm applying to an LVN program in June and am still on track to apply for my ADN program in Spring 2014!

Hello people...I'm 34, mommy of two; work full time, in Philly. Just completed what seemed like a million pre-reqs but was only 22 starting a 2 ½ year part-time program and I am so excited. My college career started rocky...but I finished strong. I worked hard...repeated bad grades for better grades, and cried a many of nights. Some courses were harder than others...A&P is a memory game and statistics was a NIGHTMARE (for me) but I passed.

Your dream of becoming a nurse is possible; just don't give up NO MATTER WHAT! Make it Reality!

I totally agree with you...I get upset when I get an A-! My son thinks I'm nuts.

Yay for the non traditional students! I was 27 when I started prereqs and finished up NS at 31. I was by NO means the youngest in my class, we had quite a few 40 and 50 plus in my class.

I am 39 and finished my pre-reqs at 37. I have a BA, and am applying for Spring 2014 ELMSN programs. Application deadlines are July and Sept. I am married with two kids (5 and 8 yrs old) Age IS only a number. Good luck ppl...

I am so proud of ALL OF YOU!!!! I thought I was alone, LOL I'll be 34 in July, and because of wanting to better myself, I have decided to go into nursing. Kudos to you guys. I think we will all be great friends as we help each other out here through the years. Lord knows I'm going to need help lol. Look forward to talking to you guys. Keep focused, and remember the prize. :)

CT Pixie,

I've got you beat! I'm 44 and just started an Accelerated BSN program that will last for 18 months. Hoping my older mind can handle nursing school :) I'm from PA.

I am very competitive, but this is the one time I'm happy I am NOT the winner ;)

Fingers crossed and God willing, I'll be a licensed RN in the next few months. But my journey isn't over..yet....its right back at if for RN to BSN! So I figure I'll be about 46 or so when I complete that journey.

Again, best wishes and good luck to my 'older' cohorts! I honestly feel I am a better student at my age than I was in my 20's. Don't let people deter you. It CAN be done, even with the added responsibilites we older students have (full time jobs, homes to manage, husbands/wives/SO's, kids etc).

I think you make an excellent point-- we are more mature and more focused than some of our younger classmates. I know that I am far more level-headed now than I was fresh out of high school, and I do believe that has had a positive impact on my experience with school thus far. We also, for the most part, understand what a huge opportunity an education is, and we don't take it lightly. I had a 17 year old classmate in one of my first pre-req classes-- it was online and she constantly emailed me a few hours before the end of each week, asking questions about the assignments. She didn't understand how things worked, and she really wasn't focused. It became a joke of sorts in our house-- around 9 each Sunday my husband would say 'so, any word from xxxxxxx yet?' Sure enough, usually if I would check my mail, there it would be!! At the end of the semester, she thnked me for helping her. I wrote her a long email, telling her how blessed we all are to be getting an education, and asked that she please not take it for granted. Among other things, I also asked her to remember that she needs to do this for herself, because it really is te best gift she can give herself. She wrote back and said nobody had ever encouraged her like that before, and she got straight a's last semester. That's my girl!!

It seems to me we have an advantage- we can put things into perspective and have life experience. Hopefully less drama. I'm excited to see there is such a large group of us on here-- very encouraging!! I'm proud of all of us for being so brave. We can make such a huge difference if we work hard and make this happen. I can't wait to see where we all wind up and what we wind up doing!!!
