Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!

Well guys. Guess I'm the grandma around here. I'm 58 just finished all pre reqs and got admitted to start the ADN program to start in 6 weeks. I worked in Financial Management for over 20 years and got laid off in 2010. My hubby said I should go for it so I did and have excelled. Finished A&P with A and ended Micro with a 103 average. I'm so excited abut starting but also very nervous. Best of luck to everyone else.

I'm 32 with 3 boys....Starting my ADN in January and just got notice from my school that that's was a change in policy and now you have to pass A&P and Lifespan with a "B". I'm freaking out!!! I was pretty confident before but now I'm terrified. But good luck to everyone.

I'm 51, right behind you scross! :) I have been taking my pre-reqs and some basics at night for the last 7 years and finally have everything done. I've applied to the LVN program at my community college and am applying for the RN program next month, both for Spring 2015. I really wanted RN, but almost scared away from applying since I heard it is so competitive and so hard. But, since I took all the pre-reqs for all those years I figured I'd be a fool not to try. Scared to death I won't get in, but LVN HESI was good and GPA is good, too. I have to take the BIO and A&P sections of the HESI next month for the RN application. If I get into either program, I'm retiring after 25 years at my job and hopefully starting the road to my dream career. I'm really worried about leaving such a good job, but I will really regret it if I don't give this a shot. Good luck to everyone waiting for word and congratulations for everyone who got in!!

Hi everybody!

I am 30 yrs just moved to the US, after being laid-off from my first job in the continental US and after words from encouragement and a sit-down phone call with 2 friend who did the same career change as I did ages ago. I will start taking the pre-requisite this fall. I am looking at certain programs and from the looks of it is going to be hard but not impossible. I even have a nursing friend pushing me to do a direct entry to an MSN since I have a masters already. I have in my list , UPenn, Rutgers, Thomas Edison(Anyone who is in their program in NJ please feel welcome to help me out with this program I am still considering it but I feel like a lack a lot of more info on this program) and NYU. I will overcome those obstacles although I will have some difficulty! I think most of you can relate to a certain extent! Specially with chronic health conditions( Hyperthyroid and Diabetes) and others who have overcome serious health challenges.

I have a question for those who are doing the 2nd degree accelerated, how were you able to cover your basic expenses besides the usual student loans? I know I can survive on the min but the rent thing while you are in a program is what is driving me nuts at this time? I know I am jumping into hoops before getting into a program but as you are aware I like to plan and calculate things very coldly. Even though the decision for nursing school still stands is just that one thing that is making me cringe a bit. Thanks to the creator of this thread!!!

Hi all!

I am 30 and have finished two quarters of pre-reqs. I am taking two more quarters and then applying for the actual program. So far I've done A&P I & II, Developmental Psychology, Careers In Nursing (required for my school before applying) and Psych 1. Still have to do A&P, Nutrition, English, Micro and Nutrition.

Wish all of you the best!

Hello,

I am writing today after I receive a major blow to my expectations of hopefully starting to take the pre-req at the local community college as I am currently unemployed I thought since I was informed I could do it and receive assistance to help me cover the tuition at least. For my surprise I was informed that I might not get a bit of help during the time being to start the transition. I am currently searching for the LNP in there and hopefully go to my next counseling meeting to see if I hit something of good news. The good thing is that the local college classified me as admitted to the LNP program after I went in with my transcript and asked them directly on how is the process of taking the courses for credits as a non-credit student. They told me I can start taking the courses in August but need to speak directly with the Academic Adviser with one of the pre-req which is not the same chemistry required in the accelerated degree program. But if I wait for the unemployment tuition waiver and after I was blown out with their response I am running with the scenario that I might have to wait another semester or year to start taking the pre-reqs or start the lnp program. Made already the math with the pre-reqs and a full-time job if am discipline it could take me up to 2 years. You can see already I am very calculative! jaja I am crossing my fingers now. Hoping as well to find a full time position to help me pay up the bills as I move out of this ridiculous expensive of an apartment.

I am turning 34 January 9th. I am currently in a lotto for the nursing program in my city. This will be my second time. I am ready to go!! I am so anxious to start the program, finish and begin my career!!! I do not have any children which has made this journey a little less hard but I do hope to have children soon because my clock is a-ticking. Is anyone in a looto for their nursing program and has anyone taken the TEAS V and how was it? Hope to hear from ya soon☺️

I'm 57 and have an LVN school interview next week! Good luck to all!

I'm 57 and have an LVN school interview next week! It's great if your hubby is behind you...I crashed and burned decades ago due to no support. My current spouse is great. Good luck to all!

Hello all, I'm 31 with four children. Finished all my nursing prerequisites. Just received my AA degree last month. Trying to get into any nursing program that start first LPN/RN. Take my TEAS next week for LPN program.

I'm 34 and finishing up my terminal leave from the US Air Force. After spending 12.5 years as an enlisted flyer, I've decided to go back to school and become an RN. My grandmother was an RN and my mother was a surgical tech so this runs in my blood. I also just found out I'm pregnant so I have to deal with that as well. I'm starting my A&PI and micro classes and technical writing and stat classes this spring and have already applied for the program at UALR that will start this summer. I'm hoping I get accepted and I hope I can get through all of this with all the chaos in my life. I'm sure if I can survive 5 combat deployments this should be a breeze.

Hi guys! 35 here. I decided two years ago to finally go for nursing. I was against it at first because I felt everyone was pushing me to do it. But one day I realized that I really do enjoy working in a hospital setting and enjoy watching and learning from my nurse friends. I have been a psych tech for 10 years and I think I will end up in psych nursing. I know I have a tough road ahead but I'm determined to do it. I'm taking A&P 1 this semester, A&P 2 in summer and micro in the fall along with the first nursing class. I'm really excited and look forward to being successful in school and as a nurse! Good luck everyone!
