Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!

I'm almost 39 in three days, lol! I have two kids, 4 and 6. I'm still working fulltime but ready for a career change. In two weeks I'll begin my first online course. College seems like past lifetime but I'll get back in mode again. I have my hubby's support and my mom's. I know I'm going to need all the help to make this happen. It's great to see so many are experiencing something similar and we all share a dream that will come true.

Oh wow! That's great. We will both be trying to swing having a toddler and school! I'm a little apprehensive of finding the time to get my studies in because they are so needy at that age. I guess the whole family will just have to pitch in and make it work ;)

Yep -that's how I feel. As moms were more used to putting other people first and this is a good example to my girls that it's ok to take care of yourself, too. :-)

Hi everybody I am 30 will be 31 next sunday I have 3 boys that I am currently raising by myself. I've been a LPN for 4yrs now and start my BSN program in September. I'm very excited and nervous all in one. It is a dream of mine to become a nurse practitioner and I wont give up until I am.

Just recently turned 30, married with a 2.5 yr old and a 10 month old. I will find out this coming week if I am accepted to an ADN program. So ready to get started and done! It's nice to know that I am not alone in being a nontraditional student. Good luck everyone!

Dolmos, maybe you can give us some tips on studying and school work load with a toddler!

Hope you get accepted in your program!

This is so awesome and encouraging! I'm like you determined to make this happen. I too want to become a np. Going to go for RN and then continue on my education! Yay for having goals and making things happen! Good luck to you!

Hopefully so! I'll let you know. I'm a surgical technologist and work weekend nights so I often have a lot of down time to do school work which is nice. I also tend to study after the kids are in bed for at least an hour or two. I'm sure that will increase with the increasing demands of nursing school but if I have any tips I will definitely share!

Thank you!

Same exact boat. I wish I had had kids before nursing school because of the age factor, but I only got married last april. We plan to start trying about 6

Months before the end of the program, so around the end of 2015 since my program ends may 2016. We are healthy, and very young at heart,

But biologically I don't want to pushy luck. So stressful

Yeah, I just wish I went to nursing school earlier, because I know I wasn't ready for kids before now. Mentally, I'm ready, but I know I won't finish school If we start our family now.

So, I'm waiting until I'm done, and crossing my fingers that I don't have any trouble conceiving.

We'll probably start trying whenever I'm done with school and have a job since FMLA is needed in my state for them to hold your position while you're out on maternity leave.

Thank you my boys are 12, 7 and 5 and I have talked to them about this because it is an accelerated program. Good luck to you also and keep me posted with your progress

i jsut turned 31 this year. i have 4 boys and pg with my 5th, due in 4 weeks. ages are 1,3,5 and 12. married and live in iowa. i have been on this journey for YEARS... literally... every time i get accepted to a program i get pg so i've basically taken the opportunity to do all prereqs to the BSN track until i'm finally not pg and can be in a program. i work in a hospital and a nursing home so that i'll have a foot in the door when i graduate, doing something i'll enjoy in the environment of my choosing. i only have 4 pre's left--- stats, cult. anth, physio, and a humanities. figure i'll take spanish since 1 of my jobs is in a spanish speaking population :) i'm in Iowa and would like to work in Minnesota when i have a few years in. GL with your journey. no matter what is thrown at you, its all totally possible!!!
