Close to failing nursing interventions

Published

In my nursing skills class I am having difficulty spending time studying because I am not very interested. I find it to be busy work. Having to memorize every minute detail of procedures for lecture exams is not going to help me develop my nursing skills in any way. Does anyone else feel this way? Currently I have a 78 (75 is passing) in the class, and am worried that I'm going to do poorly on the HESI and cumulative final. I am getting A's in my other classes because I actually enjoy the coursework. Any advice as to study for the HESI, and how to maintain my grade for another month?

Not sure i completely understand the question as far as what skills are we talking? Procedural like how to give an IM injection? or how to insert a foley?...etc... As boring as they may be it is imperative you DO know all the minute details. These are basic skills you will apply all the time and it is an important foundation on which to build. Studying and learning all you can is the best advice, you will not stop learning even after you finish school . Not sure what block you are in but as far as studying goes for the HESI, nursing exams are written to test not only your knowledge but on your ability to utilize critical thinking......

You will need to know the details about the skills in order to do well on your tests. You have to evalute the question, use your knowledge base, apply your critical thinking skills, and find the best nursing answer to the question presented.

why don't you just suck it up and study?

You have to study and you have to force yourself to become interested because you are choosing a profession where peoples lives are in your hands. Not to be harsh, but if you can't do that maybe nursing isn't for you, at least right now.

One wonders why you are taking up a profession if you aren't interested in it.

I am interested and consequently like doing all the reading and assignments.

You get graded on the skills and every little step missed is points off. If you were in my program with your grades, you'd be kicked out. Why aren't you interested in how to do the thing you are learning??

interesting input bethelstudent lol. :redpinkhe
