Have any of you seen circs performed without baby being strapped to a circ board? My sister says her husband told her that when their son was circumcised, he was sucking his thumb, and I called BS. But am I wrong? Are boards always used?
We always strap the legs down on the board. However, most of us just swaddle the arms. No need to strap the arms. If the baby seems to prefer his hands around his face I do swaddle his arms in that position so he can suck on his fist/thumb if he wants. Otherwise I have them suck on a gloved finger.
The fact that this human rights atrocity is still imposed on newborns in 2015 is a stain on health care in this country. Worldwide we're largely regarded as barbarians for doing this to our babies.

Right on! I will be a conscientious objector to this.
Our circs are done by the pedi surgeons. They won't even show up if the parents don't sign the consent first. Very ethical? I'm up front with the parents: "You have the right to have a full explanation of the benefits, risks and alternatives of this procedure by the provider performing this procedure, but the surgeons won't do this at all if you don't sign." You know what? The parents don't care, they sign.
uh.

Me neither. There's no reason to restrain the arms beyond a swaddle, which is more for the infant's comfort than anything.
Eta: I also feel compelled to mention that I am not a fan of routine infant circumcision.
