CHOC Children's RN Residency August 2020

Published

Hi everyone! I thought I would start a thread for CHOC Children's RN Residency that is starting in August 2020. I'm super excited to be applying to the NICU!

Fingers crossed for some good news in the coming months!

Hi everyone! I applied to the NICU for the RN Residency!! Very excited but also super stressed since CHOC didn't take any applicants for this department during the last application period ?

I talked to a CHOC recruiter on Thursday, apparently they did take NICU last round but hired almost entirely internal.

That’s what I’ve heard through the grapevine :( .. I don’t even know HOW to get my foot in the door at CHOC at this point since they always hire internally

they seem to always take one-two people from my school each round and I'm from the bay

Do you know if those from your school who were chosen had a NICU preceptorship/internship/externship?

Possibly PSC or volunteer? I'm not sure either. But they definitely want to see a dedication to CHOC AND why are you passionate about that specific unit! She said they will hold interviews either by distance or in person depending on the unit. They are always panel interviews. Good luck guys!

Maybe withdraw and submit it again for the same unit? or contact HR

I uploaded mine in pdf, IDK if that makes a difference

DONT WITHDRAW! My friend withdrew his application and tried to do another one and it wouldn't let him reapply to the same unit. I would contact HR. Unless you make a completely new account and apply that way.

I spoke to HR this morning and they said there’s nothing they can do, but that the cover letter isn't that big of a deal ??‍♀️

I know someone who went to the same nursing school as me but was 2 years ahead got into CHOC as an external applicant but in their fellowship program.

Hi everyone! Thought I would join in on the conversation. I also applied to the NICU residency. I decided to apply after my starting date for another NICU position was pushed back by 6 months due to covid. Unfortunately, covid also caused my senior preceptorship in the NICU to be cut short so I'm sure there are plenty of applicants who are well-qualified for the position. That being said.. best of luck to everyone! This job hunt season is especially difficult for us

Same, my NICU preceptorship was recently cut short but I still have high hopes of landing a NICU position. I wonder how many they are taking for the unit.
