CHLA Versant RN Residency September 2020 Cohort

Nurses New Nurse

Updated:   Published

Hi! I know the application for CHLA's RN Residency Program doesn't come out until March 2nd, 2020, but I just wanted to get a heads start!

I'm planning on applying for their NICCU and was curious if anyone knew what the prescreen interview would consist of?

Does anyone know if everything is still on track time-wise? Or will the hiring process get postponed due to COVID-19 ?

You would think ALL hospitals would want to speed up this process and hire any and all nurses right now... even just to hand out masks or something??

I can’t say anything particular about CHLA, but I can tell you what’s currently going on where I am from. I am an out of state applicant from Dallas, TX and some of our hospitals here started the application process a little less than a month prior to CHLA. I can tell you currently that most of the hospitals here have moved their interview process online. There has kinda been a time delay on getting interviews and receiving offers, but they are still interviewing and hiring. My fellow nursing students here have not had their start dates pushed back. Hopefully that brings you a little bit of positivity!

I would assume that they won’t speed up the process, and they may even slow things down. Because the start date will still be September no matter what.

Hello all! Quick question for those who applied to the ED - where did you do your practicums/preceptorship? Did you have relevant ED experience? I haven't had any ED experience apart from shadowing so I'm worried BUT they said to apply to the unit you are most want to work on, so I did...

Also, are most of you bilingual in Spanish? I am not and worried that will hurt my chances also..

I am in the same boat! I don't have any clinical experience in the ED besides EMT certification and volunteering there... I am not bilingual BUT I know several people who were hired for the March cohort and they aren't bilingual either - Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to almost be a nurse! I applied to the orthopedics unit on 6East since I love that specialty! I'm from Boston, Ma. so I'll be a bit far from home but definitely won't be missing the snow.

For the out-of-state people, are you taking the NCLEX in your home state or Cali?

I'm from IL and I will be taking the NCLEX here in June!

Hi! so CHLA is my first choice, but I got offered a job at Memorial Herman in the PICU and I am wondering when people are expecting to get interviews or what are other people doing about having to make the decision to turn down jobs?

I kind of forgot to introduce myself. I am applying from out of state to the NICU. I am beyond excited. During the video interview I got pretty nervous and ended saying I would bake cookies to make friends on the unit. Not sure if that will go over well. Hopefully we get the jobs we want and things get under control soon with covid-19. Best of luck to everyone!

I just read up on past posts and it looked like the last Summer 2019 cohort had interviews mid-end April and then 2nd round of interviews in May. I have a friend who is sort of in the same boat and I told them to see the timeline as well for when that job offer would start/he would have to sign the paperwork with HR for vs when he "might" get an interview for this app. In the end, they picked the other job which is still in socal so they could still gain experience and not potentially turn down the offer since getting an interview at CHLA isn't a definite yes. In the end its completely up to you if you want to turn down that offer! There is definitely a lot of factors that come into play.

We won't have a 2nd round of interviews because our prescreen interviews took the place of the 1st round of interviews ... My friends who got into the March cohort only had 1 interview ? Unless they changed it again... who knows...

ohhh thats true! sort of forgot about the prescreen interview already LOL

I’m assuming that interviews are going to go online likely. Hopefully we will start to hear back in mid and late April about interviews. I would appreciate it if people started posting when they start hearing back about interviews. Good luck everyone!
