CHLA Versant RN Residency September 2020 Cohort

Nurses New Nurse

Updated:   Published

Hi! I know the application for CHLA's RN Residency Program doesn't come out until March 2nd, 2020, but I just wanted to get a heads start!

I'm planning on applying for their NICCU and was curious if anyone knew what the prescreen interview would consist of?

Hi!

I was going through a previous CHLA forum from last year. And it was around this time between this week and next week is when they got back to applicants for further interview via email last year! Hope it’s soon!

Hello all!

I applied to the PICU residency. I am from Seattle and will be graduating in June. I had my practicum placement set for a split position between the PICU and ED at Seattle Children’s Hospital... we were supposed to start this month, but with COVID-19, everything was cancelled about two weeks ago.. super upsetting and feel like that may just completely take me out of the running.. anyone in a similar situation?

Similar position! I was in pediatrics/mother-baby unit for my senior preceptorship and was only able to do a couple shifts there till we were taken out because of COVID-19. ? I am so sorry!!! Any talk of being able to go back before graduation if the surge slows down in May or June??

UW graduates the beginning of June, so we doubt anything will change before then ? I have been having a tough time with feeling upset about missing out on the opportunity, but then feeling guilty because at least we will be graduating on time. One plus, my cohort was given a pretty cool opportunity with being able to volunteer at the COVID-19 call center for the Seattle county. They are counting that towards our practicum hours... I guess with everything going on we will have some interesting conversation topics to bring to possible interviews ? trying to focus on the positives.

I'm completely in the same boat! I also was in the middle of my Peds hem-Onc preceptorship and applied to the hem-onc unit. I didn't get to complete my hours and am not sure where that puts me. I think that all new grad positions are probably going to be empathetic to our situations though, hopefully.

Same boat over here! I'm in Texas, didn't even get to start my ICU preceptorship, which would have been all of April. I'm sure the New Grad programs are going to be sympathetic to our situation.

Side note for all of you applying from out of state (seems like there's a lot of us): I applied to the CA BON on 2/2 and just today they reviewed my file. I'm just missing my final transcript, thank goodness, but it took 2 whole months to get it reviewed, FYI.

Oh WOW!, I'm sorry to hear that you guys! I graduated in December so I can only imagine how you must feel not being able to complete your preceptorship. I know for me, that really defined the type of nurse I wanted to be.

Maybe try calling HR and ask what they are planning on doing with those who were going to graduate/will graduate but got their preceptorship placed on hold due to covid? Hopefully they will be understandable given the circumstances.

Did any of y’all who applied to Hem/Onc get two of the same question on the pre-screen interview? Questions 4 and 5 were the exact same for me.

I wasn't able to do any of my preceptorship either ?

Oh gosh... did you just apply to the California board? I’m applying to jobs in Washington and California, but I can’t apply to both boards right?

Yeah I just applied to CA, I’ve lived here for 6 years prior to going to school in Texas. I wouldn’t apply to test in both unless you want to take the NCLEX twice LOL. If you want to be licensed in both, take the NCLEX in one of them, and then get licensure by endorsement from the other. That’s what I would do!

Any updates??
