Who else is taking Chemisrty this semester? I thought maybe we can check in with each other, and help each other out.
If there is enough of us maybe we can even get a sticky.
I am taking Health Science Chemistry 1.
thanks,fun2care but unfortunately the tutoring sessions start too early, and i cannot make it because i'm at work. And guess what i'm totally lost in this week's lecture. but if i have any specific questions i will post it.Thanks again!
Can you make flashcards? I found quizzes online so that I could do extra practice.
What are you studying now?
Sorry I can't help much.
I am a new student (36 yrs old) starting spring of 2006 @ bucks county community PA. I passed the algebra assesment test (pure luck) and can go straight to chemistry. I am a little worried that my skills are too rusty for chemistry. How much algebra is in chemistry? What type of math is in chemistry? Is chemistry really hard? Can anyone advise. :uhoh21:
Hi and welcome to AllNurses.com! :)
My best advice is to utilize your school's tutoring service, download problems off of the internet to practice, and answer the problems that are given in your book.
The more you practice, the easier it will be. So, go in there with a positive attitude, and be determined to do well.

I guess I am still not clear on ..is there algebra in chemistry? How much? The reason why Im worried is that I literally guessed all the algebra answers correctly and got a high score on the assesment test. Its great in one way but now Im like...oh no...will I need it for any other coorifices in the nursing program? Help anyone who's taken Chemistry or even some of the nursing math...do we need the albegra for other coorifices down the line?
it's not algebra like x^2 +4x +8 = 0.
there is math such as:
"what is the # of atoms in 0.350 mol of c6h12o4?"
0.350 mol c6h12o4| 6.022x10^23|12 h atoms
---------------------------------------------------
[color=white]............................. |[color=white]....1 mol[color=white]........|1 molecule c6h12o4
then you cross out what cancels out and multiply across the top, and then across the bottom (with a calculator!)
you end up with:
= 2.52924 x 10 ^24
make it have the proper number of significant numbers:
= 2.53 10^24 h atoms.
i realize this may seem crazy now, but after you learn it in class, it will come to make sense.
so, it's not really algebra....like i said: no problems like 42x^2 - 32x - 5/2 = 0.
good luck, you can do it! :balloons:

It also depends on what kind of Chemistry requirement you have. I took the chem for the ASN program and that had really easy math. Just flipping conversions around. Now I am taking the Chem pre-req for the BSN program and I have run into some nastier stuff. Theres a bit of algebra when it comes to heat/energy/specific heat-type equations.
First check out the math pre-reqs for chem. If there is an algebra pre-req you'll probably be using it. Also try asking a few other students who've taken the course what kind of math is involved. I'm sure in the course of your pre-reqs there will be one or two people in random classes that have taken chemistry already. And always, when it doubt, take the class for fun.
GOOD LUCK!
Hey everyone!!
Well I've managed to maintain my "A" in Chem so far--even though organic chemistry!!
Now it's down to crunch time, and don't know what's going to happen.
We have a fourth test and a comprehensive 200-point final left. The fourth test is supposed to cover eight chapters--including steroisomers and biochemistry. we started covering it wednesday--she flew through two chapters on that day and thursday--if she keeps up like this and maintains all eight chapters, a fouth test and comprehensive final, i don't know how i'm going to do it!!!!
ahhh, I feel better, thanks for letting me vent!
Good luck to you!! I also have maintained my A so far. Not sure how I have done it though. lol We just took our 3rd test this past Friday and then pretty soon we will have our 4th test and then we will have a comprehensive final during finals week. Really nervous about that comprehensive final. I will be so glad when this class is over with!!

Congrats on maintaining your A!
Don't worry, just focus and study your lil' heart out! You can do it!
GOOD LUCK! :)

Hi nuneza2, and welcome to Allnurses.com! :)
If you have a specific question, you could try posting it, but personally, there are so many different types of chemistry being studied here, it may not get answered.
My best recommendation is to utilize your school's tutoring service, if one is offered. It will help tremendously! Good luck!
