***Chemistry - Fall 2005***

Who else is taking Chemisrty this semester? I thought maybe we can check in with each other, and help each other out.

If there is enough of us maybe we can even get a sticky.

I am taking Health Science Chemistry 1.

Specializes in LTC.

The first half of this semster was a breeze for me. I've been sitting happily on a 92%, but I have a feeling that's going to change. Last test we had the class average was 72% and the teacher thought that the average was pretty good for the test. I THANKFULLY got a 89.3%.

Is it me, or do some teachers set their students up to fail? It just seems that 72% is a low average, especially when most of your students are working their butts off to get into a competive program of some sorts. I have a lot of pre-nursing, pre-med, and pre-medical technologist students in my class. It's safe to say that for these programs you need a grade higher than a C to succeed.

OMG!!

I just got my midterm grade for Chemistry and I am NOT Failing!! I have a C so far... She drops the lowest test score so as long as I don't fail anymore tests I will hopefully squeeze through with a C. I really wanted to get a A for more points, but I will GLADLY take a C and be done with it all.

Hello All,

I am new to allnursses.com and I think this is the coolest site. I am taking A&P I and have A&P II and Chemistry to go before I apply into the program. This forum is so cool and very helpful. I don't know if I should take intr to chem with A&P II or should I take them separate semesters? If I take them both now I can apply in May of 06. If not I have to wait another year. Help!!!!

I think it just all depends on how much you can handle within a semester. A&P took up a lot of my time. I am taking Chemistry now and it is taking up a lot of my time but not as much as A&P. I think it just all depends on the person and what they can and can't handle. I have seen many people take A&P with Chemistry and did really well but than again I have seen many people take A&P and did well but did bad at Chemistry and etc. Good luck in whatever you decide!!

That's great! Keep up the good work!!

That is what our Chemistry teacher said with our first test. He said that class average was a 70 and said that was good but we was all like 'no it isn't.' I was really worried after he said that but me and 2 other people I study with all got A's. We just took our 2nd test today and am really worried about this one. :uhoh3:

We took a test on Friday and our professor said he lost it!! He said he lost everyone's!! He said he would either take our review test we did or retake the test. I would rather him take the review test we did which I did really good on than have to retake it since it wasn't any of our fault's he lost it. We just found out today since he didn't come on Monday and class was cancelled. I just can't believe it.

I have a chemistry question. Hopefully someone will know the answer to this so I can study for my test on Monday. (prays)

We are working on mass %'s it says

1) Determine the mass% of a solution made by dissolving 30 grams of NaOH in 300g of water.

I came up with 10% but I could be totally wrong.

2) How many grams of NaOH would be required to prepare 800 grams of a 40% by mass NaOH solution? How many grams of water is required?

I have no idea how to answer this question. I thought it was

Amount of solute

----------------- X 100 = %

Amount of solution

But then I come up with 20 which can't be right. Any help is appreciated. I feel like I have a good handle on the rest of the chapter its just this one type of problems. Thanks so much for the help!

PS I can't beleive he lost the test and is going to make you all take it again. He should just take the pretest score because its his fault he lost them.

Shannon, is this the correct one you're looking for?

1st find formula weight

2nd :

(# of atoms of element) (atomic weight of element)

% element = ------------------------------------------------------------------------X100

(formula weight of compound)

That's the only thing I can think of right off hand...I'll try to look at my notes, if not. (That doesn't have anything about solutions though.)

Thanks for the help Fun2care. Sadly I got another D on the test. I was 2 points away from a C. I am just praying somehow it will equal out to a C in the end.
