i've recently started researching and benchmarking charge pay for nurses; my hope is that i can gather enough information to present to my organization so that charge nurses can get an incentive that is adequate for the amount of work they are doing.
i would like to know:
1. how much extra do charge nurses make at your facility?
if you want to add in:
1. if they also have an assignment.
2. what type of floor it is.
3. number of beds in the department/floor.
4. your geographical location.
any information would be greatly appreciated!

I've worked a hospital where charge has no differential. But charge there also has usually none, sometimes 1 patient if not ICU or IMC level. Area: mid-Atlantic

New England. 20 bed CCU 1:4, 12 hr shifts. Charge makes $2.00/hr more. Day charge generally has no pt assignment, Night charge takes an assignment after midnight (we work 6-630),
However, we've started staffing per the Brady plan, so there are times Charge takes an assgnment as well as being charge.

I work in Ontario Canada.
Charge nurse gets an extra $1.50/hr.
Mon - Fri day charge nurse 0730 - 1530 - no assingment.
Evenings/Nights and weekends day shifts charge plus an assingment.
Its not a big deal on Nights. Evenings can vary.
Charge plus an assingment on weekends can be very difficult, depending on who you work with!
We are a 31 bed "rehab" (I say that in quotes because lately we are not getting rehab pts) in a Community Hospital

For a charge nurse position (3 per unit) $1.25 more per hour, otherwise if you are in charge no extra pay.
No assignment usually unless short staffed, in the ICU's on the floors they do have assignments usually.

nothing.
1. if they also have an assignment
they are not supposed to but the majority of the time, yes; at night, always. when i started working there, charge never had an assignment and got $2/hr differential. a couple years ago they eliminated the differential because "charge nurses don't take an assignment" so it's not that much work. guess what? charge now almost always has a full assignment in addition to being expected to round with 4 separate medical teams and run rounds for sw, pt/ot, case management, nutrition and manage all staffing needs.

Charge is an extra $1.00 per hour. Senior staff is expected to share the duty. After about a year you're considered senior staff. Charge takes an assignment just like everyone else, usually two patients. I'm on a neuro ICU with 10 beds. Great Lakes region.

permanent charges make more but not sure how much, a fill-in charge is 1.00/hr
generally not on either shift, but if short will have 1-3. if hospital is tight for beds, then the charge will go into ratio and take admissions.
telemetry
total 70, with one floor at 34 and one at 36.(these are two seperate floors, covered by one charge)
