Charge Nurse Pay

Published

Just a general question...if you are a nurse that does charge duties as well, how much extra do you get paid to do so?

Here, at my hospital, staff RN's only do charge on the weekends and have an assignment as well. We get an extra $0.75/hr to handle that stress.

Our director said they are going to look into other hospitals and will hopefully adjust to stay competitive.

Any input would be appreciated.

$1.00 more an hour for charge nurse on a 26 bed tele/med unit. Definitely not worth the extra stress!!

At my last job it was $3 extra per hour. I am not sure about my current position since I do not have charge duties.

No extra money; just extra stress

Specializes in ICU.

Nothing extra. Just your usual pay.

Nothing extra for being charge, and charge nurses have to take a full patient assignment.

It's disgusting that charge nurses don't get properly compensated. And from my experience, they always have a full patient load, too. :(

While it's not the hospital role of charge nurse [which I can't imagine taking on for no extra money BTW] the LTC role of charge/shift supervisor add a lot of extra duties to the job for $1.50/hr

Specializes in Med Surg, Hospice.

Zip. And nothing extra for BSN either.

not a skinny nickel

Specializes in Pediatrics and PACU.

It is part of our clinical ladder which makes it difficult to give an amount specific to that role. However, in combination with other activities one can earn anywhere from $1.50 to $5 more than his/her peers.
