CERNER VS PICIS EDPulseCheck - NEED SOME QUICK HELP!!!!

:w00t:Hello fellow nurses!! I need some help out there PRONTO!! I am currently implementing PICIS ED PulseCheck into our three emergency departments and they have just decided to get CERNER for their house wide system and are thinking about dropping PICIS and implementing FirstNet, the CERNER product. I have seen their demo and I do not care for it at all! If you have used both products I need to know what you think. We are compiling surveys and trying to find info from people outside of our organization to decide which is best, my vote goes for PICIS:up:. PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks in advance

No experience with Picis, but Cerner is a NIGHTMARE! I found it to have a difficult charting process, creating delays in order completion and general patient care from providers all the way to nursing. Nurses that are in general used to a paper system find this program difficult to navigate through and report that the multiple mandatory fields created for safe care delivery are so repetative and redundant that it's just another time pitfall. Some of the more "mature" nursing staff that find computer's intimidating have absolutely failed at doing proper charting which creates a huge legal pitfall for the department and opens up an organization for major liability issues/concerns. It's confusing because it isn't really geared for ED. It is a patchwork process to make it sufficient but not fluid for ED patients and process. The layered windows make it difficult visually which creates decreased time management and efficiency of the staff in general. This is great "House" product, but a HORRIBLE Emergency Department product. I have seen the demo for Picis and have worked with nurses that have used Picis, however I have never used it myself. Picis in general has excellent rating and reputation for ED function-ability. I think if you want a product that makes sense for an ED, you get a product that is made for the ED.

Firstnet is not a plug & play app It needs a LOT of finetuning to be efficient. We've had cerner in house for 5 years, modified it to our liking for the er. We went live with firstnet this past march. We had cerner modify firstnet to include all the changes we made to the original cerner app. I personally like firstnet but cerner based is all I really know as far as hospital charting systems.

Be advised that first net is a suboptimal EMR. We have had it for over a year and because it is server based, it frequently has sudden disconnects and freezes. They sell the intro/base package but it requires numerous man-hours to handle the never ending problems and to fix these problems they to no surprise require an "upgrade". This of course is not calculated into the initial purchase price. There is no perfect EMR but our department especially the doctors despise this software. Northwestern University ED uses this now but is going to transition to Epic in the next couple years because of persistent problems despite three fulltime IT staff dealing with the never ending cerner first net problems. Like I said, there is no perfect EMR but if you go down the cerner path just BEWARE! Your dept, your hospital, your sanity will pay a dear dear price.

I miss my PICIS. Such a great EMR. No experience with CERNER.

We are upgrading to the newest version of Cerner a team of nurses have been working with Cerner making changes to what we need. I am a superuser for the go live team and really think it is a better program compared to the older version

Am I clear. Everyone in the ED will hate you. My last place had Plusechek and its great noiw I'm at a place that has Cerners First net and its slow and bulky.

I like FirstNet, other than the downtimes And now we scan all pt armbands and meds before admin, very very annoying. Sounds like they are getting rung up at Walmart.

I like ED Manager much better, easier charting.

At my facility, we don't seem to have a lot of downtime with Firstnet. My problems with it are this: not enough room in the triage note to always list what is wrong, It isn't Twitter. Sometimes it has a bit of an explanation. I do not like the way IVFs are charted. If the previous shift starts a drip, I cannot change the rate. I have to make an admin note. It's just little things that I do not like.
