Resigned During Orientation - Advice Needed
I am planning on doing the same thing, resigning while on orientation. I have always worked days, I will pick up an occasional evening when needed, but I am not a night worker. (Hats off to those of you that work the overnight. It is not for me) I applied for a DAY position on a new unit and was informed that while on orientation we would be working a rotating schedule. I understand this as it is not 'fair' to experienced nurses to have all the new and new grad nurses on one shift or another. Now there is a new schedule policy stating that you must work a 50/50 rotating schedule, 2 on call shifts each month, holiday you must work the day before, day of and day after. I applied for DAY shift people. I would not have applied otherwise. Not to mention that I have only worked one week of days since I started and I had to work day shift and the next day night shift. How can you expect nurses to take care of themselves when you have to constantly flip flop between working days and nights? How are you supposed to take care of your patients when your body is trying to adjust to the constant changing? Don't ever question your gut feeling! If it's not right for you, then it's not right for you. Best of luck to everyone!

Cali license verification
Anyone know of a quick way to have California verify your license? Can I go to Sacramento and hand them the paperwork and check for $100 and have it completed faster or just mail it in? Thanks again for everyone's advice and help!!

Licenses
So I am looking into maybe getting my New York license and Mass license. I have my home state (which is a compact ) and I also have my California license. For Mass it states all licenses need to be verified. California does not take part in NURSYS and is super slow and $100 a pop!! Do you really have to have verification from other states that are not your main home license? I still practice in my home state and my license is active there. What are your thoughts on this??? Some people have said to just submit your home information as long as it's active. Thanks in advance for your input!!

Patient Ratio
I understand they don't want to get penalized, was just wondering what people have dealt with. I can not fathom that a nurse in good faith would take an extreme number of patients that you can not handle safely. Thanks!
-
Patient Ratio
14-19 patient to nurse ratio......That seems extreme and extremely unsafe! I can not imagine that that is acceptable anywhere or that a nurse would actually take that many patients!

Patient Ratio
Just wondering if anyone can tell me the patient ratios for NYC ERs. Not looking at any hospitals specifically just trying to get a feel for it. THANKS

How long does it typically take to get a NYS RN license by endorsement?
Do you have to complete the child abuse class? I think there was another one or maybe just that one but I am guessing you have to complete it also. It really doesn't say on the website for endorsement if you have to complete or not. Thanks!!

Shipping your Car from Coast to Coast
Hello all Travelers!! Has anyone shipped there car across country before? I am on the East coast and plan on doing a bit of assignments on the west coast beginning in mid November. I really would rather not drive across country and I could rent a car or buy a used but am thinking it would probably just be best to ship my 'Marilyn' to the west coast. Has anyone shipped their car before? Any companies you would recommend or highly steer clear of? Any thoughts on the whole issue? Thanks everyone in advance!!!

traveler's conference-live scan for california
Classicaldreams, I went to the conference last year and it was GREAT!!! I unfortuantely can't make it this year but would be there without a doubt if I could. Plus it's Vegas! :-) As far as the Live scan for California, I highly recommend it! I just completed a contract in Arizona, my first one, and I went out and had mine done. Already got my license! I got it back in May, only three months total time. When I got back to my home state I just received the finger print cards from them and I requested them in February!! My recruiter is even still surprised that it only took three months as she has other people that have been waiting 6 months and still don't have it. Bets of Luck and enjoy the conference!!! It is a lot if really good information!!

California licensure endorsement verification
I have heard plenty a horror story on the wait for getting your license from California. I did a contract in Arizona and while there I went to California and had the live scan done. I had sent all other information before doing that. Got my license in 3 months. You can go online and look at the status of your application with them and it will say if there is anything missing or if it is processing. Just as an FYI, I requested the fingerprint cards in February, before I took my assignment in Arizona and decided to do the live scan, and I received them in June when I returned to my home state...... Hope you receive it soon!

Landing that first assignment!
Hi!! I am just finishing my first travel assignment! I had a pretty good experience with mine. Once my recruiter submitted my info I talked with the facility that night and she told me over the phone she was going to call the agency and get everything started. It was really quick for me. My recruiter was surprised also lol. I really think it all depends on the facility. Best of luck to you!

Las Vegas ER's
I just saw this post and was wondering about Sunrise and what you mean by no lab? I am used to starting my own IVs but there are those occasional that are just difficult, what do they do in that case? Will the providers just do a femoral stick or something of that nature. I am thinking about an 8 week contract out there. have heard some horror stories about Las Vegas hospitals but are they really that bad??? Thanks for the information in advance!
