CDs that come with the books...

Who else uses them? I've noticed over my RN student career that a lot of my instructors LOVE test bank questions, and so many of them come from the CDs that are attached in the book. BIG HINT there for a lot of you struggling. What I REALLY like is that they give the rationales for the answers. (Call me a nut, but I have a HARD time learning the info unless I know WHY it's the correct answer versus something else that sounds just as good.)

I also tend to make use of the publisher's website, as they have a ton of study aides there too.

I always used them! I found that doing practice questions with rationales was a great way to study.

From my experience they quality of the information varies. My A&P text had some great info on the CD and website, the books we are using right now, not so much. For sure it pays to check them out and see what is on it. Also look at companion websites. I also go through all the end of chapter quiz questions, I have seen some of them show up on a quiz verbatem.

I look up my text books on Evolve.

Some texts have excellent quizzes... and yes... they sometimes get used, in some form, on your exams.

I need rationales, too. It helps the info stick because it makes sense.

I struggled with NCLEX style questions until I started doing this.

Some texts even have audio key points. I listen to them at night in bed.

It has helped me dramatically.

I get very little from reading straight from the books, so I find online quizzes and take lots of practice test from workbooks.

Love them and use them all of the time. I learn better from doing the Q&A w/rationales than I do from reading the text.

Is anybody using Craven and Hirnle's Fundy book? The CD that came with that book is crappy. At least I think it is, maybe I'm totally missing something?

Anyway, I have much better look with the Davis's Q&A Success series.

Thanks for posting this. More often than not I buy my books online (because I can get them for 5 or 10 when they are 200 in my book store!) but most times they don't come with the CDs. So far I have been fine without them, but may look into getting them if I have trouble in nursing school.

Hey Arctic...have you tried looking into the international editions of your books? I used to buy them all the time and they were always the same, with the exception of the picture on the cover. (Then you'd have the cds to use.) Also, go to the publisher's website, you can often find pretty much the same info there. :D

Thank you, I will look into that! Unfortunately my CC likes to "upgrade" there textbook selections a lot. For instance, last semester for mt human sexuality course they wanted us to get "edition 6" of the textbook available at the bookstore for 100. I bought edition 5 off the Internet for 3. Lol same exact book, only different picture on front!
